Does the 6.2L have AFM?

I’m not clear on this topic. Looking at 2012-2014 Escalades and Yukon Denali with the 6.2L engines.

Do these motors also have the AFM issues?

any way to check if a motor has a lifter issue other than by ear?

I have a 2014 Yukon Denali 6.2, and yes it has AFM. 140K and counting, no problems as yet. I do think all of the 6.2 in 2014 have it, don't about earlier...

I’ll just take it to my tuner and have him shut it off.

You can tell for sure with any LS engine by looking at the valley pan. If you see the network of passageway castings then the engine has AFM.

I just did a cam swap with AFM and VVT delete to get rid of mine permanently.

L94 engines have AFM so look up the VIN codes.

The 6.2 made the transition to AFM in the 2009-2010 model years, so yes, every 6.2 after 2010 has AFM.

My 09 Sierra has the L9H 6.2 - the AFM hadware is present, but it's not active.

I see lots of reference to the 6.2's that came with AFM hardware but it's not active. By hardware, would that include the oil sensor filter that's notorious for getting plugged? I have a new to me '07 Yukon XL Denali with the 6.2 L92. I think I understand it doesn't have AFM but I'm unclear if I'd find that filter under the oil pressure sensor.

I sure appreciate any help on that subject. Thanks.

No, all LS engines can suffer from this problem.

Your 2007 does not have AFM hardware but I’m pretty sure you have a screen under your oil pressure sensor.

Thank you for the response. I do see that the valley of the engine does not have that labyrinth of oil galleries so that helps me identify it as a non-AFM setup. That little sensor screen is awfully hard to get to so I was hoping somebody knew this for sure before I went after it.

Interesting… later discovered the Silverado & Sierra Pickup 6.2L up to ‘13 have no AFM …

* rare exception is the very early 07 Esky & Yukon 6.2L L92 has AFM hardware, but it’s not active. Pick ups have different criteria, otherwise AFM was installed and active in the above 6.2L starting 2010 MY.

That info is correct for the GM trucks.

Change L96 to L94 and you're accurate!

I think you mean the earliest L92s made before April 2005. Neither of my L9Hs has AFM hardware.

Thanks for the clarification on the mix up in the L96/L94 motors. Updated the previous post to reflect it. I had engine swaps on my mind
