2009 Tahoe 6.2L L92

So I've been doing some reading and it seems that in 2009 you could get a Tahoe LTZ with the L92 6.2L. I'm very interested in finding one, but searches are frustrating. I know these are rare, but how rare? Is it worth while to keep looking or should I just direct my search for a crew cab 6.2L and put a cap on it?

I know Denalis and Escalades came with the same 6.2L but are too flashy and don't have part time t-cases. So I'm not interested in them.

Well if you didn't know, you can drop a L92 into a Tahoe. But personally I wouldn't bother because they still don't make that much power. I would like to swap in a LS3, LS7, LS9 and they should bolt right in with minimal modifying....and a 4l60 or 6l80 should bolt right up.

Sadly the GM SUV's and trucks do not share the same chassis so a body swap will not work without lots of modifying.

I'd rather not do a bunch of engine and transmission swapping on a truck that's going to cost me $20-30k. For that price I want the truck that I want to have, not have to spend another $5-8k on an engine swap.
I say that much because that's what any 6.2L is going for USED

You will have more luck finding 5.3 Tahoe's than 6.2's. Which you can find one that has all the options you want and my be nicer. If you do a swap the engine will cost you between 4-6k depending on miles. After the swap you can sell the 5.3 and get a few grand out of it.

I have an 08 LTZ with a L92 with just over 80k on it...Still running smooth today

I wish I could find even 1 for sale. I got tired of looking and bought a '12 crew cab 6.2L L9H. It came with a toneau cover and so far don't miss the back half of a Tahoe. We'll see what happens when winter comes around though.

I thought about going that route, the crew cab and a cover for the back - is the 2nd row pretty much the same in the crew cab as in a Tahoe?

Just looked up tahoes with the 6.2 and they were offered in 08-09 but only had 380HP which is weird because the 6.2 in the escalades are 403-420HP

Here is one spot. Not sure which part you haven't heard of but you can try googling tahoe 6.2 and your questions will be answered. Denali 6.2 makes less power then a escalade 6.2 too.

Cadillac>GMC>Chevy as in terms to cost more with higher luxury. That's why you don't see a cts-v make more power than a corvette with the same motor, or camaro vs corvette. Cant kill your own flagship. People will buy the cheaper version if all specs where the same and the price tag wasn't.

Not really that weird. Manufacturers have always limited their products especially the "lesser" edition of said "same" product so to make the premium version "true" even though we all know there's little to absolutely no difference at all. They had to make it seem so.

The 6.2L L92 was in 07 & 08, the 6.2L L9H was in 09-13.

That info is correct for the GM trucks. For some weird reason they detuned the 07 & 08 Denali and the 08 Tahoe to 380 hp. In 09 they let the cat out of the bag. GM matched the 07 & 08 Esky’s 403 hp to all other 6.2L motors.

Unfortunately. they clipped the wings on Tahoe’s 6.2L L9H after 09. In 2010 Tahoe was back to the 5.3L only. GM kept the 6.2L L9H in the Silverado & Sierra trucks til 2013. It was shelved after that and got the AFM 6.2L L94 that the Yukon Denali and Escalade shared starting in 2010.

For some reason some of the above reference links show the 1500 Yukon XL had a L9H 6.2L as a Non-Denali option til 2013. All sales brochures only show the L94 available in the Denali. Esky & Denali did get a 2WD option starting in 09 though. They may have been confused that the Sierra Pick up came in a Denali trim like the YXL Denali.

One minor point of clarification: The 6.2L in the Yukon Denalis and Eskys from 2010-2013 was the L94.

For those just getting into the 07-14 full size SUV game, the L96 (360/380tq) is the 6.0L iron block GM used in the Burb & Yuke 2500. Later it the years it was e85 but always made to run on regular fuel.

The LFA was the all aluminum 6.0L in the 08/09 Hybrid Tahoe, Yuke & Esky. The 6.0L LZ1 replaced that. It added e85 to the game until the hybrid ended in 2013. All run on Reg fuel and are 332/367tq.


Caveat…. the hybrid LFA & LZ1 have AFM. The Burb & Yukon 2500 L96 does not.
