Programming can adjust only the line pressure applied and the resulting shift firmness. It does not address the majority of compromises that the manufacturers make for comfort versus performance and longevity.

The Transgo kit makes mechanical changes that not only firm up the shifts, but also improves the timing of clutch/band release and apply between gears to quicken the shifts and further reduce clutch and band wear. If you want a 700R4 or 4L60E trans to last behind any performance engine, or even a stock one with spirited driving, I consider the Transgo mandatory.

Two trans builders that have been successful in making 4L60E's survive behind 400 hp and up LT1 engines in heavy vehicles are:
Dana at http://www.pro-built.net/ and
Bernard at http://www.teamtripp.com/
Both of these guys specialize in the 4L60E and are extremely helpful in recommending the correct settings, feed hole sizes, etc. for your particular application when installing the Transgo.

Call either one of them for advice; they won't try to sell you anything, but you WILL be impressed.

We paid about $100 for ours. If you have a shop install it for you, that is where you are gonna break the bank....

Depends on how comfortable you are with transmissions. If you know your way around an engine and a transmission, it is pretty simple.
