Friend of mine has an 09 Escalade Hybrid and the motor just blew up. Apparently Cylinder 1 "popped".

GM is asking $7500 (CDN) for a crate engine swap.

Does that sound reasonable?

Any input appreciated.

Kal.

I think I read on here (or another forum?) of a guy getting it done at a shop for a little more than $5,000. But I'm positive it wasn't a hybrid and most likely it was the 5.3L.
I think if they guarantee their work and have a year warranty or more I would say that's a decent price.

ouch... what happened to the days of picking up a junk yard 5.3 for 750 bucks and dropping it in on a saturday?

You could still pick up a full gasket kit and new mounts.. clean it all up.. and sit under 1300 bucks..

5,700 USD installed. Unfortunately, I know from experience. That was my quote from the dealership with the engine at cost (the engine has little markup anyways) and a discounted labor rate. Engine has an msrp of 3,853 and a cost of 3,606. 23 hrs labor at 90 an hour instead of the regular 130.
