I posted this in the Lifted section but I wanted to post it here as well because this is the same topic:

I recently replaced all 4 of my autoride shocks with Bilstein 5100 shocks. To turn off the "ServiceSuspension" DIC message, I installed a resistor on each of the wires that used to connect to the Autorideshocks.

The resistors are: 3.9 Ohm 25 Watt 5% wire wound. I bought these on Amazon.

Here is where I prepped the resistors by soldering and heat shrinking some wire on to each side:

Then I cut the connectors off each wire that used to connect to the Autoride shocks and connected one resistor in each of the 4 corners of the truck. I heat-shrunk all of the connections to protect against water etc.

An example of the front driver side:

An example of the rear passenger side:

Then I tucked them up into safe spots and zip-tied them to the frame.
This has successfully turned off the DIC message for me.

If I bypass this nonsense, which "regular" shocks do I need to get for my '07 Denali?

You have a lot of choices. Stock GM (ac delco) non-autoride shocks or Bilstein 4600/5100 series would be my choice.

I have the Bilstein 5100's on mine now. They ride great and the adjustments on them can even be used to level your Denali if you want.

I'm kind of a noob to suspension. My Denali doesn't seem to be unlevel. What is the benefit to leveling it?

No problem man. There is a "rake" from the factory meaning that the front of the truck is lower than the back. A lot of people like to bring the front of their truck up 2-2.5" to level it out.

Here is mine leveled/lifted some:

Thanks. Do you by chance know the ACdelco part number if I decided to get cheaper shocks this go around?

I don't but you can go on the GM parts direct site and look it up or make a separate post here and someone might know.

You can also find a lot of brand new take off shocks (all four) on eBay for fairly cheap.

Thanks. I've got a crazy squeak on bigger bumps in what I think is the front left.

May want to sticky this:

25 Watt, 3.9 Ohm resistors work perfectly for bypassing Autoride on 2007+ SUV's. I chopped off the connector and soldered the resistor across the two wires, then heatshrunk. Doesnt matter what side attaches to what. No error messages.

Now you can put any shocks on without "Service Suspension" messages, and youre only out about $10.

You can purchase them here

Hello thank you for the link. Now where do these resisters go, on the plus or negative wire?

Thank you.

Will the same resistors and procedure work for 2001-2006 models?

This is very cool to know. I was talking to a dealer today, I was telling him I have a Chevy LTZ, and I like it well enough, but I want a Denali or an Esky to upgrade too, and he was telling me he did not like them because of the "Service Suspension" light that he was getting on one of them. He ended up selling it at Auction, but this is good to know if I ever get a Denali or Esky, or even if my Tahoe throws the light. I put new shocks on it around 50K ago, so I should be ok for a while. :D

SO, I NEED HELPS!! Just installed lowering kit on a 2011 escalade with autoride. CUstomer supplied resistors to install. Finished install, and started truck up. Smoked all 4 resistors. LIke melted the heat shrink off of them and started smoking. Found out they were only a 10W 3.9 ohm resistor. Removed those and installed 25w 3.9ohm resistors. Just finished that and started it up. took longer this time but it smoked them as well! ANy help? Why would it smoke them? PLease!!!

You have to disconnect the ride height sensors or it will burn the resistors up on the Autoride shock wires. Leaving them connected varies thw resistance to the old Autoride shock connectors. You can measure the resistance on the ride height sensor wires and order the right resistors to turn off the service suspension message on the DIC.

So, unplugged all the sensors, that made it not burn up the resistors. Now im getting a suspension code for each sensor? Any way to bypass that? lol Or do those also need resistors?
