East302 have a question how do you get to this part in the picture? On my 96' the arm on the left keeps popping out up top and I have to crawl under the dash and re attach to get my defrost to work on driver's side after switching modes. Is there any easy way to drop that box?
The dash has to come out to get to it. The silver arm is pressed onto the damper arm, so until you can get it open it’s probably going to be hard to get it to stay.

Meaning - you’ll need to put pressure against the opposite end of the damper or it’ll crack the plastic housing. Trouble is, getting to it may be a challenge.

I’d try some epoxy on it, maybe that’ll hold a little longer.

See if your actuator arms are reversed. The front one is shorter than the one in the back by the firewall. That’s a guess, but it sounds more mechanical in nature (or a flaky a/c panel). Compare the silver dial position indicator notches to the photos below.

Dash removal isn’t really a big ordeal, but you might as well address the whole a/c while you have it down.

Just time and money...the usual things.
