I removed the roof rack on my new Tahoe today, but unsure if I like it, what do you guys think?

Not sure the best way to seal up the holes, just put the stock bolts back in for now. I wasn't sure if the holes were sealed, so I poured a little water into one of them and it didn't fill up so it must not be sealed. I guess I now have a little water in my headliner :)

If I decide to keep the roof rack off, I was thinking about switching to set screws with some plumber's thread sealant on the threads (Think that will keep water out??) and then using plastidip to cover the screw and nut? Anyone have any better ideas??

Doorside molding.

From my Walkie Talkie

Huh, you mean like the piece I plan on taking off the side of the truck? Hadn't thought of that. It would look like another ripple in the roof. Do you know of anyone that has done it that way? Any pictures?

Do you think I can get those pieces already painted Summit Whiite (without the chrome strip like the ones I will be taking off)?

I have seen them in white....yes... that is what I was suggesting.

The proper way is to weld....

Someone here did that too.

I definitely won't be cutting, welding, bondo'ing and repainting the roof. It gave me enough heartburn taking a grinder to the frame for the free travel mod. :)

I'll do some searching around and see if I can find a pick with the door molding and see if I can find it to purchase. Thanks for the idea.

took mine off and it looked good but up close you can see it. Espically more that the truck is lowered. I also worried about water getting and and leaking into headliner

Looks good but as stated maybe a small drop would make it look better

Those plugs can get expensive. They are $25.00 for two of them.

Got some set screws and some white plastic cabinet screw covers ($2.99 for 25 of them) this morning at Home Depot and siliconed them in. Not quite big enough to cover the whole nut and black seal, but it will work until I can find the right white door molding. I'll snap some pics when I can get back out to the garage (Baby is asleep in my lap right now and don't want to disturb him).

Those bumper plugs look nice but there is no guarantee they would fit the holes correctly, I would think a bumper hole for a tag holder is bigger than the holes in our roofs. And $125 for ten of them is a little pricey.

I screwed up on one of the holes. I tightened the stock screw too tight last night and when I went to remove it today to replace it with the set screw, the whole nut turned and broke the factory rubber seal. I'm going to have to get under the headliner to hold it still so I can remove the screw and reseal the nut. PITA!

If anyone knows where to get the right door molding I would appreciate it. I spent two hours last night looking on line. I could find black and chrome with beveled ends and white that was straight cut, but no white with beveled ends. I wonder how closely generic white will match the summit white?

The de-rack always looks clean IMO, however those holes would drive me nuts. I went with an esky rack and love it.

Also regarding the holes going into the headliner I posted a thread here: http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45979 about a leak I had, and the consensus seemed to be that the holes did not lead into the roof. This would be good to clarify for anyone else considering a de-rack because no one knew for certain.

Here are some pics. Not the cleanest solution, but it will work for now.

The Esky rack does look sweet. But I don't want the added chrome.

Here's the look I would be going for with the door molding.

I know the nuts are not sealed and go somewhere into the truck. I poured a little water down one last night to see, and it did not fill up. It drained to somewhere. Also, this morning with the truck running and warm inside and it cold in the garage, I unscrewed one of the stock bolts from the roof and could feel a steady flow of air coming out of the roof nut.

If I end up trying to get under the headliner to fix my stuck bolt I will post a pic and let you know what I discover.

You Welcome.

I am ordering from there soon too.

I removed my roof rack about a year ago.

More pics in my build thread.
