Opinions on Potential Hybrid Mods ...

Go for it... Plenty of hybrid guys have done it and have not only seen mpg gains, but supposedly slight performance gains...

Btw, I'm looking at the differences in engine bays between the HyHoe and Hoe:

Two questions:

1. What is that thing (electronic) that plugs into the tube between the two metal clamps?
2. What is that other plastic thing closer to the motor thats located in front of the pipe in the regular Hoe but is sort of on top and to the side of the pipe on the HyHoe?

That is the mass air sensor.

#2 is an air baffle.

I'm asking because on the volant site they specify the previously linked cai for the 07+ 6.0L engine, but I don't want to get it and find out that it doesn't have the proper connections.

the volant will replace the entire tubing from the intake manifold to where it went into the airbox. Then it supplies you with a new tube and new airbox, so all that will go away.

Is your hybrid 07-08 or 09+? There is a difference in the gas versions of these vehicles, where the mass air meter connects to the airbox. On the 09+, its integrated into the tube and requires a different air intake, on the 07-08, its a seperate piece.

Mine is an 09 ... so I'm not sure what I need.

The amazon link I posted says it's compatible for my vehicle but I'm not sure I trust them.

no, its not. 09+ had an entirely different air intake where the intake tube had the mass air meter integrated into it. You would have to section out the mass air meter and splice it in, per say, which would sorta be a pain. They do make a kit for the 09+, but im not sure who makes it, how much, and what it entails.

hmm.. this is interesting. It looks like the mass air meter (the thing between the clamps) isn't integrated into the tube. It might work then, but I could have SWORE differently. Maybe its on certain vehicles???

Volants cai for 07-08 is cake but the 09+ is known to throw errors on DIC and a few other things that steered me away from it (aside from the extra $75-100 they tack on for that clean heat shield cover). That's why I went with the Airaid. Like dirk said, the maf sensor is in a dif spot on 09+ vehicles but who I don't know if that includes hybrid or not...

Airaid sells the intake tube separately dubbed a "Modular Intake Tube". Volant doesn't sell that separately.

For mine I'm getting the airaid jr intake but i don't know if they make that for the hybrid or not and that's about what we are talking about here

Just went to their site and it's not available for the 09 6.0L ... other than a couple of filters this is what they have available:

The mass air sensor isn't just a plug. It's the entire piece between the two clamps, and the engine harness plugs into it.

My apologies, I'm probably not getting something really obvious.

The maf sensor is circular and is the same circumference as the tube and the place in the 'box'. The maf should go in that spot

Or does the CAI attach to each end of the existing sensor?
Ie, the sensor stays and the filter and tube get attached on either side of it?
