Spectre CAI

I know all about CAI's but really havent seen too many of these being used, just curious on thoughts and oppinions considering the price compared to the other popular ones.

Never heard of that one, But i just ordered this one. My friend has it on his hoe and from what he said he gained 7-10 hp and 3-7 ft lbs torque on the dyno.

I say no to both! Still open inside the engine bay therefore sucking in the hot air within the bay. Thats called heat soak.

Out trucks have pretty efficient Intake since it bolts up into the fender. The filter is contained within a box, therefor there is no heat soak and it suckin all COLD..COOL air from the outside into the fender.

I say if you wanna cheap out get a drop in K&N...or Go Volant. They have a 4" Collecter which is the biggest for our Hoes.

Yea i like Volants full enclosed box, but stock setups are fairly restrictive. Realisticly a CAI is a CAI not much gains will really be involved just added efficiency. Probably just go AEM

i have a spectre CAI on my 05 yukon. it`s good quality stuff for the price.

they said that heat soak is only a problem in slow moving traffic, it`s not a huge problem when moving because it`s getting alot more airflow.

hey guess what.... i made my own. lol 4 inch pipe and some of my own brackets and stuff...

3 - feet of aluminum pipe ($3 dollars from junk yard)
3 - 4 inch - 3.5 inch couplers ($5.99 each)
1 - 4 inch air filter ($26.99)
1 - custom made bracket ($free from my garage floor)

i brought the pipe to a shop in my town and had them do the binding and cutting to get the right angles.

1 - 90 degree
1 - 25 degree

they cost $15

my total came to about 62.96(closer to 65 after tax) and i noticed a 12 hp gain on the dyno

I do agree with you in terms of an enclosed CAI vs. a poorly vented CAI.
Am i missing something ? who doesnt have a stock 5.7 ?

me lol i have a 6.3 haha. Its a 383 so i needed some major air flow.. My 417 horses need alot of air.

Shit I WAS THINKING OF ONE TOO FOR THE LONGEST TIME.

One ran to the OEM location, then another a lil further up on the fender well. Cut a hole in that and run a pipe and filter in front of the front tire like my DSM had and other import as well.

My other idea...One to OEM and another to the rear of the engine bay closest to the COWL Hood opening in a cowl hood. Heck witht hat set-up you can run the other one to the finder too. THREE set up lol.

Yeah shit sounds good! N/A Supras and N/A 300z have twin intake set-ups. Why cant' we?

Only real advantage you get from the CAI setups is the more efficient tube running to the intake. The cold air part of it is a crock. Unless you have done heavy modifications to your engine, you will not see a horsepower gain from a CAI (and it would have to be a TRUE CAI).

If you want to dump your money into air flow, get a hi flow filter and/or one of those tornado things that "makes the air better"

I have an Air Raid intake (intentionally NOT calling it "cold air") and it is pretty sweet. when you stomp on the pedal, you can hear it snort, then the thing wraps up, and takes off like a shot. My engine is stock, though I have dual pipes, dual cats, no y-pipe. For true "cold air" you need to port it to the outside of the car, preferrably the front, in lieu of a fog light, or on top, with an induction hood.

With the stock intake, what you gain in having cooler air coming from the wheel well, you lose a lot more in restriction. With an aftermarket setup, you do lose some by having hot air going into the engine, but then again, that's why injected engines have air intake temperature sensors to adjust the mix.

So my vote is for an aftermarket intake.

i have a tornado inside my Air raid intake,but i also have granatelli MAF,BBK throttle body,and Helix spacer..need some better exhaust now.but can feel a big jump over stock.

I've never heard anything positive about them. I always grouped the Tornado with the $15-$35 dollar "chips" that you find on ebay.

Yeah I don't think the tornado is worth the aluminum its made of. You may as well buy the CAI "flex tube" Spectre made to fit into the front of their filter elements. Anyone remember those?

I got the intake kit from the ebay link above. It has a noticeable seat of the pants difference from the stock intake.

The only problem is that they sent me the wrong filter, but I used my K&N from my stock intake and it works great. Made the exhaust a little louder and the intake is loud. All and all I'd say it was worth it, and the seller is working with me to get the right filter.

On a side note if you guys are looking into a daul filter setup its basically wasting your time. The filters flow plenty, if anything just get a bigger filter. On my Camaro making 430 rwhp I'm running a 3.5" intake pipe with a 4 deep x 7 tall x 7 wide K&N filter. You just want the straightest shot into the throttle body, the intake on the camaro has a 60* bent and thats it. On the tahoes you have basically a 90* into the TB and another 90* bend on a stock intake. The ebay one that I have got rid of the extra 90* bend and turned it into a 45* and then a straighter shot into the TB hat.

Beside DJ the filter on both sides won't work unless you go back into the orginal tube before the MAF, otherwise it won't run. It would be getting too much unmetered air
