It wasn’t today but Friday and Saturday was doing a few baseline things on the newly acquired rig. All new OEM struts and shocks all around. Disabled AFM and did an oil change, changed air filter, cleaned MAF sensor, replaced power steering fluid and removed 5.25qts of trans fluid via dipstick and replaced with Valvoline Restore & Protect ATF. Lubed up all door hinges and latches. Lubed up pivot points on steps. Replaced the battery with new AGM. Still need to do Tcase, diffs and drop the trans pan to replace all fluid and the filter but that will be about a month or so from now. Truck came with new tires but they are some off brand thing that I’m not thrilled with. Waiting for a sale to grab some Michelin Defender LTX2’s. And based on brake fluid level I’ll probably need brakes soon (no leaks). I already have all the parts to do the brakes.
Curious to know how the Valvoline works out for you. Next engine oil change I plan on using R&P for the ATF as well.

I may start a thread for this rig and keep it updated there. This one is new to me. But I’ve had really good luck with the R&P engine oil on multiple other rigs.
I’ve got 9 vehicles. 8 of them I use R&P 5w-30. The 9th is diesel so it gets its own oil.

Dang bro! Single handedly driving the prices up for the rest of us! :Big Laugh: I've been using it on my main rig, my other vehicles get whatever they get.

more you buy the cheaper it is. This will probably last about 2 years at the rate I’m going. Vehicles, lawnmowers and generators all get that same oil. Makes it easy.

I got my truck back today with the rebuilt transfer case installed. There is a noise coming off it at the rear bearing, at very low rpm's, where the rear driveshaft connect to, so I'll have to circle back to my gear builder for a review.

My drive shafts were balanced, with the front one much more off balance than the rear one.

@PG01 , you recommended that I replace the 4 year old universal joints on the rear drive shaft, just because, and my builder said the same thing and replaced them, giving me all new universal joints on both drive shafts. Thank you for your sage advice.

I also replaced both the battery cables and installed a new ground strap from the motor to the firewall. So, now all main cables and critical ground points are clean and tight.

Time to cruise!

Was this due to corrosion, or is it prophylaxis?
Some of each. All of my drivetrain components have been replaced/rebuilt, some due to wear, and some simply because they were 160,000+ miles old and prone to failure at some point, due to the increased horsepower provided by the supercharger. The transfer case was the last drivetrain component to be replaced.

The battery cables and ground strap were replaced, after I got stranded 80+ miles from home, due to a ground point corrosion failure (ground to frame failure). Also, my negative battery cable failed the voltage drop test.

Got my annual semi-annual oil change, 1100 miles since Feb.

I mentioned the assorted repairs, posted here, for the trans cable disconnecting from the shifter lever.

LOL, he has only scorn for any method other than the factory way. He says that bushing fails about every 80,000 miles. I told him to save me one.
