Is this normal? Traction?

I sometimes drive around my Wife’s Armada in the driveway. It’s up hill and I try not to rip the grass(crab grass) up. If I back up the hill, the moment I hit the pavement edge(it could be considered a little step up) the Tahoe stops and bangs. I have to hit it with momentum. Otherwise it will bang and eventually spin the tires. What is it? Traction control?

Are you driving your Tahoe to get around your wife's Armada, or is this about driving the Armada around the driveway?

I’m driving my Tahoe around the Armada so I don’t have to move both vehicles by myself.
It has G80 and I haven’t done a rear service, yet. It drives fine, besides.

The bang could be wheel hop?Plus it has hard 22’s on it.

As a possible partial answer, reverse is normally geared much lower than the forward gears.

Could it be that one tire spins at the grass/driveway transition, and the rear differential goes into lock mode, hence the sound?

Try a slight angle if possible. Let 1 rear tire hit first.

Does the traction control light come on when this happens? Maybe turn that off and see what it does? Have somebody watch you and see what the action of the rear wheels is when it happens.

I’m hitting the driveway ledge with one tire. I can’t swing wide because there’s a tree.
I used to see the traction light on my 2002. But, this one I haven’t noticed it ever, but I’m also looking back to avoid hitting the Armada.
