Hi so I have a metal clanking sound when while moving. It’s coming from the engine or tire side /drivers side of the Tahoe. It stops when I lift the foot off the gas. The clanking sound is like a piece of metal in a bike tire spoke or a rolling metal clanking sound. There are no lights in the dash with a check engine. There are no performance issues. Just wondering if any has an ideas.

Thank you

Ken

Does it do it while stopped in gear with a slight brake torque? (Don't do longer than a few seconds at a time). If not, does it change with speed/being in motion? What speed is most noticeable? What rpm range? What year, make, model

Does it do it while in park and you rev the motor?

Is this in 2WD or 4WD?

If you can record the sound and post it here, it might help folks help you.

Hi all thank you I weasel thinking the same thing recording the sound. To be clear the sound only comes when from a stop and going to high speed. 5-10 mph no sound. When pressing the gas it makes the sound. When I let if the gas it no sound. The faster I go 50 mph it dissipates. It’s late going to the gym but it’s quite out. I Will try to record it and it’s getting worse. No warning lights and it has not effected the performance of the Tahoe.

Aloha

I’m guessing it the CV joint/ boot
Maybe. But those usually make noise at all speeds - especially when turning, when they're on the way out. Easy fix though. If you can post a video of the sound on YouTube with public permissions and link it back here, we can give it a listen to help verify.

I just had both front drive shaft assemblies replaced last week, because the CV boot had split on one, and I had over 150,000 miles on those drive shaft assemblies. Mine were not making a noise, though.

Depending on how long they've been open could most definitely be your issue. If the grease inside attracted dust, dirt, and moisture, there will be a gravely sounding from them. The contamination can also accelerate wear on the components causing time to become more sloppy.

Hi to all.

So I took it to the Chevy dealer and there replacing the axels. Over $900 dollars but insurance is paying for it and the bolts to go with it. Very happy. I’m out the $415 for labor. I’ll take that any day.

Aloha to all.

Just thought you would like to know.

So, is the work done yet and is the issue resolved, or is the work yet to be done?
