Bose radio issues. No sound when cold. Randomly powers off for a few seconds.

I have a 2003 suburban z71 with factory 6 disc in dash cd receiver. When it’s colder than 50 degrees the radio powers on but now sound or door chime until the cabin warms up. Summer months it works fine. Cold months nothing the you hear a pop and you get sound.

I’ve tried replacing the Bose amp (under the center console) pulled from a junkyard Tahoe of same vintage. Still same issue.

Also tried reflowing solider in the main circuit board on the radio receiver and my original amp.

Still no change has the no sound when cold. The random theftlock seems new but it self heals and goes away within a few seconds. Only happens very rarely. The random radio powering off then on is new.

Anyone else experience this? Is there a known wiring harness issue under dash or center console?

My burb has the sunroof, maybe in the past 20 years someone left it open and it rained? Although switching out the Bose amp didn’t seem to fix anything.

I have a 2003 Tahoe same issue that started 3 or 4 years ago. Each year the temp in the cabin needs to get hotter before the radio and chimes work. This year with the heat wave, it took 100 in the cabin for it to all work. I too tried installing a different amp and checked all the connectors in the console. It all looks as new. I have never even turned on the rear entertainment stuff and have had this Tahoe since 2015. I have posted issue several times with generic check the fuses answers etc. but have never seen a response here or on other sites that had to do with the OEM system. I think somehave just replaced everything. I have been afraid to do this because of the tie in to chimes and security.

I find it hard to believe a dealer won't unlock the radio for FREE, just pull up to the service drive, tell them you had to disconnect the battery and now the radio say's locked?
takes them less than 5 minutes to press a couple buttons on the radio, write the code down, make a phone call and get the unlock code.
hell post the code up here and i bet @915_Tahoe can get you the unlock code to enter.

Off topic but pretty sure the climate control module was replaced. Everything seems to work fine but it ALWAYS runs the AC compressor. Is that normal on this gen? It’ll be freezing out, I turn up the heat and you hear and feel the ac compressor cycling.

Yes, this is normal, like with many other cars. The air conditioning runs to dry the air and prevent the windows from fogging up.

I would just go on crutchfield and pick your poison if it was me. They sell you the radio already setup and wired for your car. Almost plug and play.

Also check your door speakers and speaker wires for signs of moisture/rust. But I'm with Blackelky. I replaced my 02 Silverado radio with a 7" android touchscreen system with Nav, Bluetooth (cell phone connection) and a USB flash drive with 700 of my favorite songs on it and a few video. Got the system off amazon. Cost me under $200. To avoided any of the issues I was having (some of the same you are having) by not plug in to any of the existing harness or wiring. I ran all new wiring from the head unit to the fuse box and speakers. My speakers were shot so I replaced them. The hardest part of the install was running the wires to the door speakers.

I’m familiar with the older radios pre 2002 where you press some buttons and get a code.

2003+ the button combo won’t display a code and you need a tech 2 to program in the VIN for your vehicle into junkyard radio.

I’ve reached out to some unlocking GM radio services on eBay and they won’t touch a BOSE radio or if you have BOSE components in you vehicle as that’s another security handshake that breaks.

I’ll probably pull the head unit one more time and look at the power supply soldier joints as now even when it’s working probably 3 of 10 days it will just loose power and then power back on while in use.

They lied... Its just as easy as a non-bose. Someone doesnt know what they are talking about on eBay.

With the radio in hand, NOT PLUGGED IN, turn the key onto assessory, NOT ON, count to 10, and plug in the radio. The radio should power on with full function. It will stay this way until you either turn the key off, or turn the key on/start.

lots of member with a tech2 including myself, there is a thread with owners listed
and any repair shop with a tech2 or compatible should be able to do it for cheaper then, call around
you can get a tech2 win device off ebay also, then you can save yourself that $125 charge every time.

Yes the replacement radio I have does power on but no sound when in acc mode. If I turn key to on then it goes into theftlock until I pull radio fuse and go back to acc

Oh hell maybe I got sound like 1 out of 3 times when trying the acc mode with spare radio. It’s been awhile. It sure looks nice in my garage lol.

WatchJRGo on YouTube recommends ATTO brand. I think that works with steering wheel controls too.

Pulled oem radio and will keep in house warm while rest of the burb is cold overnight

You are on to something. Installed the replacement radio which is in really nice condition but no sound. Powers on and can change stations but no chime no sound at all

I hook up original radio and stuff and works when it’s not cold out of course.
