2015 Tahoe/Grinding/rough noise from front of vehicle

I personally don't buy stuff like that on eBay as the shipping is usually horrendous plus if there's something wrong with it and it has to go back, you have to deal w/that. Plus, there's numerous junk yards within a half hour of me so I just go and grab one there...When it comes to diffs/axle housings, I do a partial tear down to make sure it's good to go before buying.

That said, if you want, price is something you're willing to pay and seller has good seller feedback (and allows returns), go for it.

Yeah I agree. I would prefer a rebuilt one, but either I don't know where to look for them or they are just not out there.

What is this washer for? Looks like it was just free moving around against the teeth.

Looks like this gear is for the 4wd. Makes sense as I didn't realize it would put the tuck in 4wd while in automatic mode while driving on pavement. So probably wore down after being driven in 4wd all the time on pavement.

I can't seem to find this part to replace or this washer. Would I be able to just replace the washer. The gear seems fine thankfully.

Found the part!

It's a 3.55 mm Front Drive Axle Clutch Gear Shim.

Pretty sure the shim is not supposed to have this shelf on it. It's worn down pretty bad.

Looks like this gear is for the 4wd. Makes sense as I didn't realize it would put the tuck in 4wd while in automatic mode while driving on pavement. So probably wore down after being driven in 4wd all the time on pavement.

If AUTO is working correctly the front drive will engage only when the system senses slip in the rear drivetrain. It's not in 4HI all the time, and it's generally okay to have it in AUTO. Having said that, I won't run AUTO on mine unless the road conditions are changing enough to warrant it. Otherwise it's 2HI or 4HI.

Gotcha, I guess from prior conversation I assumed being in auto it would be in 4wd more often then not.

Not if the system is working properly, and if it was in 4hi you'd probably notice it "jumping" or jerking during hard turns or when the drivetrain binds on hard pavement. Called "crow-hopping." Perhaps a bad encoder motor could set it to 4hi but show the AUTO light on.

I had just the opposite happen to mine. We'd switch to 4hi, the 4hi mode light would light on the switch, but we could feel it slip in and out as if it were in AUTO. That was an issue with the encoder motor, verified by using a Tech 2 to show that 4hi was commanded but AUTO was actual.
