Started to clean up my K5 I picked up earlier this month. Thought I would share the progress with you all since it's going to be taking up my time and money rather than the Tahoe for awhile.

I haven't done much to it as of yet due to finances but thanks to my buddy having welding skills he and I got to work on the body last Saturday and yesterday. We were able to weld up all of the body holes , fill them, sand them down, and re-primer them.

I didn't go picture crazy but here is a couple shots of the welds -

And here's a couple of shots of the after -

Did the driver side yesterday. Next up will be to work out the dents but all of the holes are gone. Here are the pics!

Boo... was looking to save myself some time. I'll re-host them over here.

Should be fixed now. Ignore the sticker on the fender. It was on there when I got it but I haven't felt like removing it as of yet.

Thanks Pat. This is my second 72. I had one before I was married (sold it about 8 years ago) and have wanted another one ever since. I picked this one up about a month ago and am determined to get it into shape as funds will allow it. Since it's in good shape mechanically already, I'm working on the body work and then it will be all about saving for the paint job.

Sorry to hear about your brother buddy. I assume the Chevelle was his and the Blazer yours? Either way you guys had some great vehicles. I love the Chevelle's every bit as much as the old K5's. Definitely post pics up here if you start the build. I'd love to check them out.

Thanks man. That's the same reason I've always loved them myself. There's just something about being able to cruise/off-road/etc all while in a full convertible. I was so bummed when I had to sell my last one. I told my wife this one is a lifer and I'll never sell it lol.

Thanks Rory. I finally decided somewhat the color/direction I want to go. It's not exact but this is more or less close enough to what I'm thinking.

LOL whatever Cartwright! I don't care what you say! This truck is staying with me for life. I still think I should have kept my last one but now that I have one again I am never selling let alone GIVING it away! :rocking:

wow that awesome.. remember detailed pics through this build lol im looking forward to them.

IMO you should think about a 2 tone from the groove on the top of the fenders. maby like a blue and a bluish silver, or like a oil slick black and victory red

that makes me want a k5 lol

I'm torn on the grille honestly. I won't go with the 67-68 grille though. It is between this one and a billet grille.

Thanks BOSS. It's in pretty decent shape given that the guy who owned it before would take it trail riding etc thus the few dents it has. I am just happy it didn't have rust. I can handle the body work no problem. I will be cleaning it up substantially.

I totally agree. That truck is really GArY. Send me the address and I'll help you out by taking it off your hands. You can call it a mercy killing, lol.

Ha Ha :pepper:

All joking aside, I'm so jealous dude.

Damn, I love the early k5's. I've wanted one since I was a little kid after seeing a mean, pristine, lifted one in black, drive by my house. I think they look awesome in silver as well. I think a solid color matches the persona of that body style. But that's just me. I've been keeping my eyes open for one for a while now with no luck. The ones I see are all rotted away, or in excellent shape but way out of my price range. Anyways, awesome truck man! And even if I'm a little late here, good luck with your project!
