On GM Parts Giant the prices start at a little over $800, and some are around $1200; some even more $$. You're telling me you wouldn't push the dealer/GM a bit more and just pay for that out of pocket? For a defective lamp? Just eat it? SMH
Yeah, I consider that stealing.

I picked up my truck from a shop once, stopped at a store and drove it home. The next day I went outside and the applique was hanging off the back door.

Did the tech yank on it during his 200 point inspection and then fail at his attempt to glue it back on? Was the glue already there? No idea, never had that part apart before. Did someone try to steal it and only got as far as separating the applique from the body and not the wiring? Not a clue.

Can't prove it either way and I wasn't about to drive around with it broken like that until someone else paid for it or go through the aggravation of fighting to get someone else to pay for it. Nope, I ordered up the parts ($480) immediately and fixed it myself and moved on with life.

Here is the latest reply from GM

“You will have to authorize the tear down of the headlight with the dealership with the understanding that if it's determined to be cosmetic due to normal driving condition the repair bill will be at the cost to you. The cost would be a diagnostic fee plus labor and repair instead of the cost replacing headlight. Diagnostics in determining the cause of the crack is more costly than replacing the headlight.”

Can’t make this stuff up. Thanks for letting me vent!!

Have you contacted the GM Regional Customer Service Rep for your issue? I cannot tell from those responses if you did.

I know that in NH, if the Inspector saw that crack at the annual inspection, they'd fail you and force you to get it replaced.

On my screen there appears to be a little spot towards the bottom of that crack where it looks like a rock or a big bug or something hit it. Maybe it looks different in person but from my couch that sure looks to be caused by some type of external impact

I see that too. It appears to be right where it starts to go vertical after the curve, correct?
