I put a screw driver on the valve cover and put my ear to the end of it and the passenger side sounded fine I believe its the 3rd lifter back on the driver side from what I heard I’m changing the oil and filter tonight before I leave in the morning she ain’t done it since the Italian tune up but that don’t mean it won’t come back tomorrow or the next day might pull the valve covers off when I get home and check things out a lil more wish Me luck

Yeah that's #7 cylinder that's the devil mine is dealing with too. I have to switch that spark plug out every few years because of the oil fouling on that cylinder.

I haven’t had that issue yet I changed the oil a weight higher and threw a quart of mmo in the Tahoe I’m 3 hr in the drive almost home been running 75-80 the entire time since I left nags head so far no lifter tap I’ll report back in a day or two once I drive it around home.

I was a little wary of putting the additive in that motor with the mileage and the sludged up oil pump screen. Had a bad experience with that years ago, broke loose a bunch of the built up sludge and really screwed up the lifters in that old motor. I'd guess you're home now?

Yea haven’t done much driving today just moving around the yard to cut grass and to help hold the rear end straight while I changed blocks and u bolts out in my Silverado. I ran her hard right before I got home got a lil over 100 before coming off the stretch she’s been as quiet as a church mouse today

@Trey Hardy Prepare for if you gotta do the job but make sure to enjoy it! Don't want to live in fear of the motor going at any moment, that's not a way to enjoy life lol.

Oh yea man I know my buddy has a 6.0 out a nnbs I’m planning on getting and doing a top end in it. It was definitely nerve racking because 90% of the time she runs just as smooth and quiet but when it was tapping and me 4 hours away from home weren’t a good feeling and me being me I said I’ll put it to the bottom and it’ll either shut up or blow up one of the two luckily it shut up for me and has been good ever since I switched to the thicker weight oil and put the mmo in it.
I might rebuild the 5.3 for a obs project later on but right now id rather not take the Risk of putting 1000-2000$ in the top end for the bottom end to give out down the road but every Chevy my family owns has 300-400,000 miles the lowest one is the in-laws corvette with 220k on the dash so who knows she might last another 100,000 miles or so if so I’ll be mighty happy

What oil did you go with? I'm going to be switching to 10W30 on the next change.

To be honest I don’t even remember I think it was valvoline high mileage 10w30 with a quart of marvel mystery oil and a k&n filter prior I would run royal purple 5w30 and a quart of Lucas but I took my diesel mechanic friends advice and I’m glad I did because she’s running a lot smoother before I switched it would lifter tap and I would peg it out and sometimes it would quiet up sometimes it don’t or it would come back either that evening or the next day driving it but so far since I switched I haven’t had any issues. And like above I’ve drove it probably close to 10-15 hr within a couple days time traveling for work

I would change out the oil and filter soon. The MMO has probably washed the heck out of the motor. Or, depending on the miles you've put on, change out the filter and top off with new oil and let the cleaning continue. You don't want the filter to get so restricted that it starts to bypass......then all the potential good you've done has been a waste and just moved gunk to other areas that never see gunk. $7-10 for a filter and $5 for a quart of oil might be worth it. Also, try the PF63 filter. I believe it's the same diameter as the OE one (double checck visually on o-ring and thread), just twice as tall and more filtering capacity. I use PF63 on both my 08 and 17 Denails.

Just now changed the oil and filter at 2000 miles cause it make a slight noise on the way home last week same thing 10w30 Mobil one high mileage synthetic and a quart of mmo k&n filter again so far so good oil was definitely dirty but no where near as gunky as I thought it was going to be

Yea my buddy said he might try it on his cause his done the same thing and he quit driving it I’m not saying it’ll be a long term fix but if it stretches out the life of this old 5.3 where I don’t have to tear it open until I have another motor ready to drop in I’ll be happy the trip today was 3.5 hr straight pretty much 75 from the time I left the house lol so far so good

It’s now almost the end of February I’ve been adding mmo for my last quart of oil each oil change now and my lifter tap/stuck lifter has not come back yet! Knock on wood…
She leaks almost a quart between oil changes so I add Mobil 1 when it becomes low so the mmo does not thin the oil out to much.
Definitely not saying this is a permanent fix but it saved my ass is all I can say!
Almost 320-330,000 miles on it now!

Sweet! Glad you are able to eek some more life out of her. I'd assume the inside is quite clean by now. You might be able to go back to just oil at this point and see if it leaks less. Hopefully you park on asphalt or gravel. LOL

Not horrible but still want to trace it out if possible
Also my yoke has been like this ever since lifting it im assuming I would need a longer yoke or extended driveshaft? Not problems so far but figured I’d get y’all’s opinions

Looks like you got yourself a good old fashioned rear main seal leak there sonny. Along with possibly an oil sender, valve cover gaskets, and whatever can give up at 325k. LOL

I'd probably address the driveshaft sooner than later. I know they slide in quite a bit to make up for suspension travel, etc. But seeing your suspension is always traveling......away, you'll probably want more contact on the output shaft splines before they cease to exist.
