I'm about to do the suspension on my XL, and I have gravel outside of the garage. I am wondering if anyone has tried laying tar or liquid asphalt over the top of gravel, or maybe doing a chip and seal type of thing. I wanna be able to move my jack around easier.

My other thought is a big piece of carpet, which is probably what I will end up doing for now. Maybe a few smaller pieces so I can move them inside if it rains

have also used some rectangle pieces of thin carpet ( think like indoor/outdoor carpet) as something to lay on. a same buddy also uses some plastic sheets that are corrugated like cardboard ( think thick yard signs)

I have used sheets of plywood and also laid on cardboard. I went to an appliance store and they gave me a complete thick cardboard box that a refrigerator was shipped in and then I cut it for 2 sheets of large cardboard.

x2 on a piece of plywood or OSB, and maybe a blanket or carpet on top of that. No carpet where the jack base sits. Rough gravel is going to poke through cardboard.

I have some 1/8" steel plates that I use with my gravel driveway. 2 of the plates are 2'x2' which I use for the jack stands, and the 3rd plate is 2'x4' which I use for the jack.

Maybe I should just save up for concrete. I'm mainly tired of weeds and grass lol.

It'd be cheaper in the long run. If you spent the money on blacktop then wanted concrete, it'd cost more to dig up that blacktop. You could do it in sections, like an "apron" 20' long x whatever width your garage is would be a usable start.

Concrete would definitely be the way but if your part of the country is anything like here, be prepared for price shock unless you do it yourself. I just got a quote to redo my driveway and about sh*t my pants.

We did my buddy's concrete ourselves, and I was still in price shock. My main reason for thinking about chip and seal. I also would have to tear out a bunch of gravel to put a pad in, but if I could tar and feather it, I have enough wiggle room.

I'm about to run to KC to get these shock boots I forgot to order, then lay down some carpet and start putting parts on today. Hopefully I can get it done in a week or so, lol

P.S. my part of the country is Topeka, KS. If you have never been here, I don't really recommend it, unless you need a good cheeseburger on your way through.

Trip to Smoke Stack BBQ on 71 Hiway, in Mo., would be worth the drive or to Arthur Bryant's in KC is even better.

I'd figured that's a job you would tackle yourself.

I will have to try that smoke stack bbq! We had some Town Topic burgers today. Took the kids to this farm up there, so its not looking like I'm starting today, but I think I have everything now.

You just head south out of KC on Holmes Road and you will see on the left as you enter the town and see the smoke stacks and smell the meats.

I make a pretty mean brisket myself, you will have to come down sometime if you move back.

There is no if...I am moving back for sure. I will post on here when I do the move. Getting together for a brisket is very doable.
