She sat on the freeway and idled for hours in 95° heat with the AC on full blast, well thanks to some idiot on the freeway...
And then clocked about 500 miles today including the grapevine. Trans never hit 200 and coolant only got up to 213°, again with 95 + degree ambient and me beating on it a little up the mountain, dropped back down pretty quick too.

Well after putting it off for awhile I finally got tired of adding parts to my cart and not going thru with it. First delivery. Had to get the Autocal since I didn't when they did unperson tune

Second shipment. Speed engineering 1 7/8 headers/ and y-pipe

installed. wasn't to bad. if you decide to wrap headers make sure you get real titanium. I thought I did be it was colored not the real stuff. wrapping took way longer than I expected.

sounds good with the Black widow muffler, and res delete. now to work on the cam setup and LSA purchase

It used to be back in the day that header wraps would hold moisture and cause the headers to rust through. Has that changed with new materials?

Just curious, I haven't looked into this in years. The longtubes I put on my mustang 10 years ago are ceramic coated

It’s an issues if there not stainless. Will they rust? Yes. But am I concerned no. For the cost to coat them I can by another set in the xx years it’s going to take to rust.
The wrap works amazing ( 2nd vehicle I have wrapped the manifold) for my purpose and need. And the cost. If I had a set of ARH l’s the. I wouldn’t wrap them.

I have Trico Ultra (not sure if they are higher, lower, older versions). So far 3 years and they work like new, amazing actually. I have had a full set sitting on the shelf for over a year, waiting for when I see that first streak. Not yet.

My Ultras came in a couple days ago. Glad to hear they do well in the winter.

I bought regular trico. I can't get wipers to wipe well after 1 yr

Try cleaning the rubber with rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball?

Alcohol works well to clean them initially, but don’t forget to wipe them down with something to help the UV and dust from killing the blade over time. This “303” product is incredible stuff. You can detail most of the vehicle with it, similar to armorall but works WAY better, lasts longer and can help bring old vehicle body trim back to life.

So! If anyone is in need of O2 sensors buy them now. I’m not sure why they are on sale all of a sudden, but Amazon and a couple other stores have them (213-3866 - upstream) listed for $38/ea whereas all of the auto parts stores have them for $80ish/ea. The (213-4229 - downstream) are $49/ea on Amazon and $60’s at the parts store. If RA and Summit didn’t charge so much for shipping I would use them more. They both have pretty quick turn around times.

Funny, after I posted about my Trico Ultras, I went out and looked at them closely. The rubber is almost white in color, they look dead. But when I felt them they were still pretty supple and they seem to be going strong. I had forgotten about the replacement set I bought before we moved into our current house (actually about 16 months ago) until I posted on this thread. Pretty good wiper blades.

I did all of the other sensors with the new engine, i probably might as well.

It would also give me an excuse to get under there to install that wide band...

And i pulled the driver side valve cover.
Everything looks great!

I re torqued the rockers for good measure, and proceeded to clearance the valve cover a little more.
I'm likely going to replace it with the updated one later anyways, so i decided to let it open up the bolt holes.

Found that only the middle bolt is used for the coil pack.
But i found the box of original parts that still have from the 5.3 had some bolts that were a perfect fit!

The original oil pump cover bolts were the right threads and length to plug the holes.

It also reminded me to save all of the old bolt hardware.

Something i learned from my grandpa.
A bit Packrat yes, super fkn handy though.

Yeah the virtual sensor is a dumb friggin design. I'm sure to get it working would require changing the fuel pump or sending unit.

It was working back in the spring, but is now stuck. Apparently there is no way to adjust it via HP Tuners; per my tuner

Ours being "stuck" at around the same percentage piqued my interest. I'll switch to a physical sensor sometime. There are kits that put one by the fuel rail, but I saw one installed inline near the tank that connected to an unused plug in the harness. I'm just a little skittish of cutting and splicing into the fuel line. Although, I think I'd rather add junctions to the fuel system under the car than on top of the engine.

I should also add that the O2 sensors play a role in it calculating the alcohol content. I might have a lazy O2 sensor. Both were new when I did my motor work last year, but I've gotten the "insufficient switching" code twice. I swapped the sensors around almost two weeks ago and am waiting to see if the problem follows. Maybe the system defaults to ~22% when it has a slowly switching O2 sensor? Back at that time, I tested my fuel and found the alcohol content was actually in the 60s.

Once mine are a bit older I will add them to my AMEX accounts to help establish/build their credit. You can add kids to them at 13 years old, doesn't mean they have to actually hold the card either.

I'll add them and use those cards a couple times amonth to build history

I've been using rotella t6 since I bought it. With Lucas, because racecar or I mean, old beater.
K&n filters or just the blue Delco filters.
Warm idle sits around 30, and warm 6,000 is around 55psi(on the gauge)... I need to get a tech2, nothing else I have seems to be able to read actual oil pressure.

Longer filter sounds good

The Tech2 will read off the oil pressure sensor just like anything else. The only way to know actual pressure and to rule out an inaccurate sensor is to hook up a known accurate mechanical sensor and gauge.
