Did they ship from the US or China?

There website says they have warehouses in the US and UK but if the are out of stock they will ship from China.

Just curious how long it took to get yours?
I actually don’t remember, it’s been a minute.

So, I have a couple of questions about programming with a Tech 2. I have used mine standalone for a variety of tests on my '04, but have recently set up my laptop to run the TIS2000 program using Virtual WinXP. Kind of a convoluted setup, but it seems to work for as far as I have gotten. I'm able to control the Tech 2 with the laptop.

As I understand it, one can program modules two ways:

1) using the Tech 2 as a passthrough, connected to the truck and to the PC at the same time. Seems like this would allow programming directly from TIS2000 or, online using TIS2web.

Or 2) starting the programming using only the Tech 2 connected to the truck, then disconnecting it and connecting it to the computer, running TIS2000 or TIS2web, then reconnecting the Tech 2 standalone to the truck.

Is that seem correct? Does TIS2000 allow programming by itself?

Assuming those two options, if TIS2000 has the programming I need, why would I pay for the subscription on TIS2web? Maybe I don't understand the difference between TIS2000 and TIS2web.

I'd appreciate thoughts and comments from those of you with experience. (Not the Jimi Hendrix kind...)

EDIT: corrected "TDSweb" to "TIS2web"

I used TIS2000 to program a new/used ECM for my buddy's 2001 Suburban.

I just hooked up the Tech2 to the laptop and downloaded the programming and then disconnected the Tech2 from the laptop and hooked it up to his Burb and programmed it.

For anything older than 2007 you shouldn't need anything other than TIS2000.

The TDS is for 2008+ software from my understanding.

You have it figured right and Ken provided an example. Online at ACDelco is really only for an update that may not be on the TIS2000 discs which you can find out for free by using TIS2Web. You can use the old TIS2000 for the 1990s through 2008 or so vehicles without the Can Bus architecture.

Didn't GM start the Canbus system in 03?

I can confirm that this USB serial converter (dongle) works in WinXP:

I got mine at my local Microcenter store for $22.

Curious, though, there are several drivers available on Manhattan's web site. When I had Virtual XP running under Win10 the driver that came on the included CD worked to connect to the Tech 2. However, that one didn't work on a laptop running XP natively; I had to use one of the ones on the Manhattan support site.

For those of you using TIS2000, what version does yours show? Just curious if I have the latest for standalone, non-TIS2web programming. Here's mine:

Need a little help here. Just got in my Tech2 clone from China Car Diags. While exploring, I can see somethings. For other areas, I get this message.

One example is when I’m accessing the TCM. The initial attempt was without the CANdi module, but the Tech2 told me it was missing.

I’m sure (hoping) it’s operator error. Any help is appreciated. I did review a couple videos to familiarize myself with hooking it up. Let me know additional info needed to help.

The connectors on the tech2 cables are known to be hard to push together so first thing is to shove them all together with all your might, see if the clips are snapping together, and try again. Also, if you’re trying to access something your vehicle doesn’t have or you’re in the wrong menu you can get that error.
Edit: the main cable that connects to the Tech2 also can be finicky, you need to turn those thumb screws in tight, wiggle the connector to seat it better, then tighten the screws again, possibly with pliers.

10-4 I’ll try that, thank you.

I’ve got a 2012 4WD LTZ Suburban and believe I’ve got the selections correct, but will double check that as well.

Mine is flakey sometimes and I find it doesn’t see the Candi. I found the connections to it are finicky. Sometimes I have to power it down and restart a few times. Once it connects it is golden.

Can't really add anything that hasn't been said already. All good advice.

On my Burb it will give me that message if I try to connect to my radio because I have a Kenwood HU so it can't communicate with it.

On my buddy's GMT800 Burb I can't connect to several different modules and I'm not certain why. I just assumed there is an issue with those modules in his truck.

Or his truck doesn’t have those modules? I know the menus have every module available whether or not it’s in that truck. It shows things like park assist sensors or rear seat hvac controls on my Silverado even though it’s an LT and doesn’t have those. It just shows that same error message.

This is true but on his I can't communicate with the HVAC module as an example.

There are others as well but I can't remember which ones.

If he has any aftermarket electronics try pulling the fuses for them.
