so to follow up on this sort of, I have been using the vxdiag and a hacked version of GDS2, I could finally get the gds2 software to run but it would show the vxdiag as "not supported by gm" so after screwing around with that trying to get it to work I bought one of the clone MDI2 from chinacardiag, FINALLY after spending another hour trying different things I discovered the vxdiag device has to be plugged into the tablet via usb, then I have to open the gds2 software, if the vxdiag is not connected gds2 wont run and it just errors out, so once the vxdiag is plugged in and gds2 is started I can unplug the vxdiag and plug in the clone mdi2, it gives me a small error that i can ignore and walla! it works with my 2018 :):):) nice because gds2 cost like $795 a year otherwise and even a 3day subscription is like $70, this hacked version has like 9750 days on it. I am able to run all the diagnostics just like a tech2 can on the older vehicles, all the vehicles went to gds2 in 2014

Boy, it's a good thing you figured this out when you did... you only have like 26 years before that hacked version expires... lol

So can you reprogram BCMs yet???

I'd really like to turn off the hyperflash so I can ditch the resistors.

shahhh I have no skills in the bcm reprogramming that's a whole different ball game, I am sure it takes a myraid of special adapters and some unknown form of software to reverse engineer the gm software I used to know some people that loved to do that kind of stuff there are some that take it as a personal challenge, retired folks with nothing better to do any more lol

I've never messed with any of it.

I was under the impression that you could reprogram modules with this type of setup.

I had hoped that it would be simple check boxes, like setting up the Maestro for an aftermarket HU, Yes or No/On or Off type of thing.

Guess that would be too easy... lol

I wish, doing a calibration update is sort of like that but you just choose things based on what the current version is and what the rpo codes are, etc but it doesn't let you make those kind of changes

well I'm happy now they released a firmware update for the vxdiag and now it works like it is supposed to with gds2 & tech2win, no more errors, no need for the mdi2.:)
so all you need is the vxdiag $130 and a tablet or laptop and you will have a functioning tech2 and gds2 tool

Just thought I would post this here...

https://www.chinacardiags.com/whole...or-gm-saab-opel-suzuki-isuzu-holden-1011.html

They have the Tech 2 with a case and all accessories for $289 with "Free" shipping.

They also have the Tech 2 with all the accessories but without a case for $215 BUT they charge $68 for shipping.

I opted to pay the extra $6 and get the case and the "Free" shipping.

Waiting to see how long it takes to receive it.

Anyway, I thought it was a pretty decent deal so I figured I would share.

Did they ship from the US or China?

There website says they have warehouses in the US and UK but if they are out of stock they will ship from China.

Just curious how long it took to get yours?
