Got the truck fired up! Battery was shot. Putting out 120 CCA. Now, this is my only problem left. Valves need to be readjusted?

no clue man  does it follow rpm increase/decrease? since your battery died i would make sure alternator/tensioner is working

Knock seems to increase with RPMs. The tensioner and idler pulley are brand new. Oh, it does it with the belt off too. Forgot that part lol

This is the only thing left to fix. Collapsed lifter? Stuck lifter? I went through and adjusted the rockers, but it still does this. Going to pull the intake and check. Thoughts?

Best case scenario it's a lifter...but I dunno - seems to be running smooth? Valvetrain is pretty quiet, or at least cant hear it over the tapping. Can you ID what cylinder?

Is this the same sound it made before just worse or is this new since the battery dying

If was doing this a little before, but only on random cold starts, and would last for about 15 seconds. Ever since the batter died it’s been far worse! I believe it’s Cylinder 1. Didn’t put a stick or screw driver to it, but hovered my ear. When I pulled the lifters tonight, they all roll pretty well, but lifters in Cylinder 1 were much more difficult to get out than the others. Others slid right out, but Cylinder 1 was catching like it was dirty.

Randy, from what your describing above, possible could be a mushroomed lifter, meaning the bottom of the lifter isn't flat anymore and the outside would be sharp and hanging when you try to pull it out. Good possibility since all others are ok, camshaft would have to be replaced. JMHO and good luck.

Haha I have a new one too! Keep forgetting to grab it every time I leave the house.

I have the lifters soaking right now, but they all seem to roll very well and no sign of abnormal wear. I posted this video in a Facebook group and they all wanna say it’s a rod. I’m either having a hard time believing that or don’t want to lol

sounds like a rod to me too especially in the first video, I think if it was just a lifter it would sound more like this guy's truck, just my thoughts

I’m not convinced that’s rod knock. I’ve never heard a rod knock to be that prominent at idle. I’d be more leery of a piston. But you can check for that while engine is idling by shorting out each plug one at a time.

What about the piston would cause that though? All the pistons and piston walls looked good when the heads were replaced a couple months ago.

So not technically the piston bc if it was a slap it’d typically goes away with acceleration. But more or less a piston wrist pin but killing a the cylinder won’t give that away. You said it’ll go away after the engine warms up.

The ticking at idle goes away, but not under acceleration

Here are the driver’s side lifters. Thoughts? They spin freely. Seem ok to me.

That’s what I’m thinking but don’t know how! Maybe I was a dumbass and didn’t put the intake back on right? What are the torque specs for lower intake?
