I just opened my box for the tech2 and cannot believe the number of cables connectors etc.....

OMG this is confusing. Also my laptop does NOT have a built in cd drive.

1. Is the Tech2 preloaded? seems to be
2. Just connect it to OBD port and turn to run?
3. Don't want to blow my ECM

As an aside its Bosch software (Chinese Copy i'm sure not authorized)

Turned it on when plugged into the wall. Menu works.
It’s always Bosch software. You don’t need a laptop to use the The Tech2. Install the memory module in the PCMCIA slot if it isn’t already and you’re good to go.
Edit: you only need one of the connectors (the obd2 one) and one cable unless your truck needs the CANDI module, then you need that too. I just leave mine plugged in even though I don’t need it. It makes the cable long so the Tech2 reaches all the way from one end to the other.

Don't forget to use the CANdi module plugged inline between the Tech2 and obd port.

Speaking of that CANdi module, damn that thing is cumbersome. You'd think that they could make it a bit more shapely instead of a big flat square.

software is not required unless you want to program something in which case you can copy the files on the cd/dvd to a thumb drive and install from the thumb drive, also the tisweb stuff will run on java as a virtual machine so you really don't even need the old software
