So I've noticed this problem 2 times in the past few months, but chalked it up to possibly my fault. This time however, it for sure wasn't. My Tahoe keeps putting itself into 4wheel high. The knob shows it is in 2wd, but the orange light is on 4WH. I noticed it tonight coming around a turn and heard a noise. Then made another slow turn and heard and felt it. Then turned into my driveway and felt it again, looked down and there it was on 4wh. I stopped to take a pic, but by the time I got my phone on and on camera, it switched back.

Has anyone ever experienced this? It's hard to take it to a mechanic when it's extremely random or won't stay in that position.

might be a faulty switch, I think the nbs have a similar issue sometimes and it's been the switch

Probably the switch Phil like Wes says if the DIC did not give a warning and if no internal codes are present.

When you say the switch, you mean the knob to turn it into auto,4wh, or 4wl? Or something else. Just take it to my mechanic and have him replace it? Obviously I don't want it to go into 4wd while I'm doing 50-60 mph.....

I have been pondering getting these but wasn't sure it would make a noticeable difference over the 9005's....

What say you, oh wise one???
HIR are way brighter than anything except probably retrofit HID projectors. I haven't seen those so I wouldn't know. But HIR's are really really bright. But if colormatching your high beams is important then it's a no go. They are their own different color.

Yes, the switch on the dash is most likely the culprit. Nothing will get hurt if it goes into 4HI at speed. It'll just protest when you slow down and try to turn. If you have 4LO, the light would turn red and flash if it tried to shift into that while driving too fast. It'll only go into 4LO stopped or below 3-5 MPH and the transmission is in neutral.

The 9005's are the stock high beam bulb.

I knew the HIR wouldn't match my 6-6500K LEDs but I didn't think about it having a different color than the stock bulb... huh?

Got a pic???

They might be close to a halogen, I’m not sure. Just not close to my 6000k HID. I don't care though since I rarely need them but when I do they sure do their job. Sorry for no shot of them shining down the road but it's 3 AM and if I start The Beast now I'll wake the neighbors. It's a loud ass thing lol.

Cool! Where did you tap into power? My daughter has just been using a long (10') usb cable plugged into the ports I put in on the back of the center console. I thought about installing some on both sides in the area below the middle row flip/fold button just in front of the 3rd row seats, but wasn't sure where to get power from.

Drove the boy back to college (Mizzou). Only 115 mile trip each way. Had E85 in tank and got 13.5 mpg driving 75-80 mph.
Him and his sister watched a movie with the flip down screens and headphones most of the way. He was in the middle row and she was in the 3rd.

I put it on the passenger side in the shallow cubby behind the cup holder and tapped into the rear cigarette power port only took me 6 months to actually do it, you could add one to the drivers side as well by either tapping into the lift gate harness somewhere if you have the lift gate or just run a wire under the carpet from the passenger side rear cigarette port
