Yeah, I don't have a torch. Is the only heat you're using the engine exhaust? Use a propane or MAPP torch for better heat.
I'm afraid of doing that since it's a header--much thinner metal. I don't want to tear it or damage the bung in any way. I'm super paranoid. That’s what I did the last time I changed an O2 sensor.
Those special sockets are great for the install, but can spread on the removal. The thread fixers are nice for cleaning things up after the removal battle.I'm thinking of getting this set--View attachment 268499

Any opinions?
I did read that about the split sockets--the spreading. Would you be concerned about that Wade? Those special sockets are great for the install, but can spread on the removal. The thread fixers are nice for cleaning things up after the removal battle.
Yes. I've experienced that and remember the pain of slamming my knuckles when it happened. That is why I would recommend a 6-pt box end or 6-point socket, cut the harness off the sensor and put the binders to it.I did read that about the split sockets--the spreading. I started to round it out, that's why I stopped. I was using a big adjustable too.Yes. I've experienced that and remember the pain of slamming my knuckles when it happened. That is why I would recommend a 6-pt box end or 6-point socket, cut the harness off the sensor and put the binders to it.
Afterwards, clean up the threads with something like this.

The sensor is toast, so commit to removing it and cut the harness and put the best tool for removal on it. If need be, drill out the center of the sensor and then put the binders to it.
I was trying to think what that kind of torch was called. Thx @George B.I have an Oxy acetylene torch but before I had that I used one of these lil guys. worked well when I needed it, this would help you.

You are to the point that you need to soak that SOB in Kroil or PB Blaster overnight and then just commit to getting it out. Keep spraying either one while you are working on it.I started to round it out, that's why I stopped. I was using a big adjustable too.
I second the kroil best shit ever! You got this, a new bung is less than a $20 fix even if you really mess it up.You are to the point that you need to soak that SOB in Kroil or PB Blaster overnight and then just commit to getting it out. Keep spraying either one while you are working on it.
You know that an adjustable wrench has it's place, but putting ugga dugga's into something is not it's place. I would strongly suggest you drill out the center of the sensor and see if that releases some of the binding. Then you put a 6 point deep well on it and with either an impact or a 24" breaker bar, alternate between tightening and loosening motions, work that damn thing out of there. You have to be more stubborn that then sensor and I am willing to bet you can be pretty damn stubborn.
I know you are afraid of damaging your collector pipe, don't be. Your choices are a stuck sensor, a potentially damaged bung that is fixable at an exhaust shop and a sensor that is out and then some threads to clean up and then put a new sensor in.
I don't have any Kroil but I do have some PB Blaster.I second the kroil best shit ever! You got this, a new bung is less than a $20 fix even if you really mess it up.
Go out and soak that bastard right now and then again in the morning. If you have to, hit the thing dead on with a hammer to bust some of that loose.I don't have any Kroil but I do have some PB Blaster.

Definitely. You need a small torch at least! I probably have 4 or 5 nozzles around the garage and shed and a few bottles. Super convenient for many things. I think I paid around $20 for a kit with the nozzle and tank at Home Depot. Harder to get MAPP now unfortunately..I have an Oxy acetylene torch but before I had that I used one of these lil guys. worked well when I needed it, this would help you.
