Didn't help. Now the belt is missing a whole rib. I'm frustrated.

I'm sure you did- but did you inspect every pulley to be 100% sure that there was nothing in a groove or even a burr on the edge? I had a small pebble get wedged in the A/C compressor pulley and shredded the belt on my Express. With one side of the belt being damaged, you at least know to focus on the front or back side of the pulleys.

Running fine, hoping it stays that way.
I also FINALLY emptied the catch can.View attachment 228873
This is probably from 3 oil changes, which were 2500-3000 miles. Not too bad. I also added some steel wool, along with the filter that was in there.View attachment 228874 View attachment 228875 View attachment 228876 View attachment 228877
to me it looks like the belt is riding the inside of the idler closest to the alternator, maybe it's just a optical illusion

Tony it looks like the alternator is too far back, throwing alignment off. @8-25 sec in your vid the belt looks like its coming off the fan pulley crooked also but Imo your alt if off, either shim it or somehow bring it out a 1/4 to 1/2 or more.

I had noticed that too, but I wondered how something like that could happen out of no where. It was fine for a long tine. Thx Pete. Hopefully I'll get home early enough today to mess with it--again.

Thx again Pete. Weird how that just happens outta no where.
It could have been like that since the alt swap and you were just lucky for awhile. Didn’t you say you weren’t driving it much for some time? I figured at some time something changed, that’s why earlier I questioned if it started happening right after you put that alt on.

maybe just loosen the alt bolts (not all the way out, just loose)then use a tool and pry up the backside of the alternator that will move the pulley forward maybe just enough then tighten it back down and see if it makes any difference, watch it when you tighten it back down to be sure it isn't pulling the alternator back down again, might have to hold the pry tool in place while tightening.

Yes, it sat maybe used once or twice a week, now it's every day.
