Well, I have a habit of not getting outbid on GovDeals. I just picked up my 5th vehicle this year. Rented a Uhaul toy hauler trailer. I do like the trailer, don’t like surge breaks, but that is because of my own fault.
So, you know the weight limit is 8600 lbs. is that when the car is loaded or unloaded? Wink wink…… drove from Phx to southern CO with an empty trailer 11 hrs there, pretty much stuck it at 75 the whole way there.
The return though was a little more interesting. 16hrs to get back. Pretty much was set at 58 mph on the way back. Stopping about every half tank. Depending on the section, I was getting as high as 12mpg down to 9.6mpg. There were only two points where the car temp got to 235 and Tran was 220. One was the pass on I40 from CO to NM. The other was climbing up from Camp Verde heading south on I17 from flagstaff to Phx.
A real trailer and brakes w/ a controller would have made that drive easier and would have driven about 65 on the way back.
So to address the big blue elephant in the room. I based the weight on a uhaul 10 box truck. The trailer was a little more then I though it was at a hair over 3100 lbs. the trailer was not over weight at all. That being said, I am guess that Tahoe was probably 2 or 3 hundred pounds heavy. Will I do that again, nope. The blue truck can tow more anyways……
