Long ago, owned a '94 Fleetwood LT1. Unlike Caprice/RoadMaster, it came with Acceleration Slip Regulation, aka Traction Control.
(Side benefit of Traction Control is 4Channel ABS. Caprice/RoadMaster had 3Channel ABS; lacking Traction Control, 3Channel ABS was cheaper for GM then.) ANYWAY
Even back in the 90s, had to open the glovebox to disable Traction Control each & every time I restarted the engine.
Collective efforts of the ImpalaSS Forum over nearly 2 decades never found how to disable ASR upon startup by default.
GM's beancounters & legal depts seem to 'agree' that GM's arse is better covered by forcing the driver to disable these 'safety features' upon each startup.
You get what you pay extra for, I guess.
For the record I think that the driver(s) should have the option of temporarily OR permanently disabling any combination of 'safety features' as they see fit,
until they decide to reenable any combination as they see fit.
But it's easy to imagine that GM fears a scenario where a driver's 'failure' to enable a 'safety feature' results in them suing after a calamitous collision,
"The default should be always on til the driver intentionally countermands the safety feature!"
I happen to know that Porsche allows the driver the option of disabling the ABS; however,
ABS will TEMPORARILY re-enable so long as the (adjustable) Stability Control happens to be in use/effect, immediately after which the ABS re-disables.
