I'm new to chevy vehicles and want to know of I should be worried about anything with the tahoe I just bought the other day. It's a 2009 tahoe lt with a 5.3, with 160,000 miles, everything is stock and it seems to be in good shape. Is there anything I should be concerned about with the engine and that mileage or is it a good buy?

Also is the AFM/DOD a problem? I don't mind replacing all those parts but if I don't have to spend the money and can use it on other repairs that'd be great.

Not sure your budget?? but a DOD delete is $$$$ !!! First step I would get a Range disabler on Amazon

Once you go with DOD delete I would stick with Texas speed on camshaft/lifters

Keep the oil changed every 5k and you should be fine. Disable it in the tune and the AFM lifters will last as long as regular lifters because they’re not being constantly engaged/disengaged.

I did a mechanical delete in my 2012 6.2 but it was only incidental as I wanted a bigger cam for towing.

And I STRONGLEY recommend sticking with full synthetic motor oil with these LSX engines and our bi-polar weather across the country !!! Blend and Dino oil(if you can still find any) I would leave for the winter beaters out there lol

Welcome, as always change belts and possibly plugs if you do not have any documented service history on them. This is about where the engine is "broken in" with a long service life left. As other has mentioned oil changes are very key.

Sort of have the opposite. I'm thinking of selling my 2011. It has $20k plus in repairs/replacements including deleted, new transmission, rear factory shocks, trans lines, oil pump, water pump, radiator, rear main seal, bigger camshaft, all new tires and custom tune.

Not a spot of rust on it. Only saw 1 winter (last year) and gets rust protection every late summer. 170k. Excellent condition. Bought it for $22k with 113k. Other than the nasty cracked dash and minor scrapes in the boot, interior is gorgeous. Exterior also nice with a small spot of clear coat coming off on the hood, and peeling on the plastic taillight top.

How reliable is kbb on this? High end is 10,500. Give what's been replaced, I'd love to get that out of her. Thoughts?

I think KBB is low; however not far off. I think you're going to need to sell it privately if you want to maximize the price.

I would ask: why are you selling it and if there is a $ figure could be put into your current truck which would make you want to keep it?

This is also relevant for folks who are looking to pick up a GMT900 series as even the newest model is now over a decade old and depending on who has owned it could be still an excellent truck or a money pit depending on the direction.

The most expensive Denali XL right now on cars.com is $27.8k with 46k on the clock; next is a $18.9k model with 107k on the clock. Your truck is probably a $14-16k truck with the right buyer but it's going to sit for a while.

It needs to be advertised nationwide, allow buyer to purchase a warranty on it, have a broker who handles payment, title & DMV Ppwk.

Autotrader / KBB private seller exchange …

Worked great for our 08 YXL Denali w/ 140k & same scenario w/ $20k maint. Got $12.5 during COVID. in ‘20. Carmax offered $3k LOL

Thinking about getting back into a Hoe or Yukon for a daily driver/kid hauler. Looking at the NBS and NNBS around 200k miles on what I'm finding. I'd think that AFM issues would have presented before reaching those miles? I'm not too picky.

NBS never had AFM, the 6.2L however didn't get it until 2010 so a 07-09 Esky with the 6.2L as opposed to a 07+ 5.3l which will have it.

It really depends now on what you want and how much you want to fix. 200k isn't a lot for these vehicles if you know the service history however it's way more than I'd get into if buying used.

Gentleman I have been put in charge of making a sticky with common questions asked on the forum. These include common problems (please provide fixes and pics), some of the common mods (provide pics, step by step instructions, etc.) i.e. not air ride but maybe leveling the rear or front. I am also leaving this up to you guys a bit, if you think it is good info then please post it up.

This will be multiple stickies but will hopefully eliminate multiple posts on the same subject and also frustration from new users.

What I have thought of so far:

1) AFM and oil consumption
Need fixes and common symptoms to look for.
2) Dash cracks
Need common locations with pictures.
3) Rear defrost plugs breaking
Need fixes and pics

I haven't owned one of these in a few years so I know I am forgetting a ton of stuff.

Keep the needless chatter out as it will be deleted and basically make my job harder.

Thank you in advance for the help! :flowers2:
Go to CARCOMPLAINTS.COM and look up your vehicle and year. Its why I chose a 2012
