Pretty much been forced to stop inside every car parts store and car wash, to look for what I can only describe as

'a mirror attached to the rear window glass that functions like a poor man's backup camera that needs no electrical power'

It's an unwieldy search term that makes it impossible to googl or duckduckgo this thing.

Sometimes seen on the rear window glass of minivans suvs & wagons that lack rear view cameras.

Can anyone help me find this thing?
At least give me a more searchable phrase that will not get confused with 'interior rear view mirror' or 'rear camera'.

Is this what you mean?

No, but only because I can almost always see out the back of my rear window.
Those mirrors are for 'commercial' vehicles with no glass behind the driver whatsoever.

This aftermarket 4th mirror attaches to the OUTSIDE rear glass window, usually close to centered near the top.
It's aimed so the driver can see anything hiding directly behind / under the rear window glass from inside.

Still grateful for your answer.
vehiclesafetysupply dot com seems to be for vehicles larger than my GMT821, it also has lots of other stuff I may otherwise find useful; thanks.

89suburban, thank you so much.
If anyone else finds any other clever solutions like this, I bet I won't be the only one who appreciates it.
Thanks again.

Amazing how few variations there are on the theme.
Here I think they call them 'hitching mirrors'?
Think some countries actually require such mirrors for certain passenger vehicles.

I have one that I bought years ago to use on my 2001 when I was hitching up my trailer. It used a heavy duty chip clip looking clamp and I didn't keep it attached all the time, only when hooking up a trailer.

I have this setup for backup view and trailer hitching with a powered switch so I can have it on when I want it to, not just in reverse.

Thought the GMT900 already came with an OE backup camera?

Willing to consider yours - largely because you can turn it on at will! - but I also want non electrical options.

Found this too:
Wouldn't mind having the mirror, the lens, AND the backup camera altogether ...

Is this what you're looking for?

Thought it was called an rv backup lens, and that fresnel lenses were for cameras and front door peepholes.

My Boss Audio has a dedicated 12V PWR wire off the back of the head unit. I wired my backup cam to that feed, which powers the camera when in reverse, but also feed power anytime the radio is on, so I can turn on the camera at any time.
