What are the odds my motor is on it's finals stages of its life? My oil pump has now gone out and I now have a knocking sound when my tahoe warms up and the oil pressure goes to 0. I am in the process of replacing the pump, but when I turned it on the last time since I parked it, I heard a really bad noise like metal on metal that last for about 1.5 second and then goes away. What is that noise and should I look into getting a new motor or is it time for a rebuild. I checked the oil and noticed very very tiny metal dust in the oil. I had to look very closely but I did see it. Please let me know what y'all think.

Could be piston slap ... it's more then likely too far gone and you need a new engine.

I'm thinking it's a lifter, I am praying it isn't piston slap.
