I just took a set of 28s off my 15 yukon xl, I was running 295/30r28 tires and I didn't think the ride was that bad. However, since I'm back on the stock 22s until my new 26s come in, you're right, the ride isn't great on bands like this. You don't notice it until you have more tire under you again!

I figured the 28s would look excessively big, but they actually look just right on it. They fill the wheel wells nicely
