Well most of my friend were a year or two older than i was at the time and 3 of them enlisted in the Marines. Two of them came back and said don't do it. The Military suc*s it's horrible don't do it you will regret it. Turns out they were AWOL more than once and ended up getting arrested over it a couple of times.
The 3rd i never actually seen again as when he went to boot camp his family moved to Texas.
After testing i did have the aptitude for aircraft mechanic/maintenance.
You know friends and peer pressure stopped me. All i had to do was sign the contract. Barely 18YO i decided my friends were probably right so went out and got drunk and skipped the signing the next morning.
Corse, later in life i realize how wrong they were and i messed up but by then i had a woman and baby to take care of.

LOL, even for kids who do it right, it's almost like a law to bad-mouth the military on your first enlistment, whether you re-up or not.

I was an aircraft mechanic at 17; but on radials, not jets. It's still the best job I ever had.

And, as a PS, military people are the best group of folks I've ever known [well, you know, except for that cranky old mechanic up in the PNW :) ].

A new wife, newly pregnant, was the 200 pound tie-breaker that made me go ahead and join.
