Found my old XP puter and started to load software but did not know what acronym or picture to click on. Also I was told by seller I had a USB key, only thing I think there refering to is a flat cable with 9 pin plug on one end and data plug on the other end and a Data jumper. Are there any tutorials that could guide me thru loading the software. I 'm a old fart in my 70s so not the sharpest knife in the drawer for computers but can work a scanner if I can get the software loaded. My 2008 Tahoe is giving me fits.

Howdy Carl,

You don't need the software to use the Tech2 to diagnose your Tahoe. Only if you wish to program modules. My memory fails me as to how to install the software but maybe @Rocket Man remembers?

What's wrong with the Tahoe?

Software is probably TIS2WEB. You really don’t need it. Everything you need is on the tool, you just have to know how to use it. Programming any module will still require a subscription

Software is probably TIS2000 and he can use it to program modules without a subscription or internet connection. Like you said, he will rarely, if ever need it, the tool can do most things without using either TIS2000 or TIS2WEB.

I've been driving for sometime with a code po449 ( too lazy to fix). Then fuel pump quit, installed a new one. Now won't take fuel. Not sure if I screwed up something or Evap solenoid/canister took a crap at same time. Need to use scanner to check solenoid/ECU circuit. Will take off canister and see if plugged. I though I heard that you could program up to 2008 from hand held.

P0449 is for the Vent Solenoid Circuit. You can use the Tech2 to test it but it helps to have the shop manual. You can get quick access to that with a subscription to AllDataDIY. If the pump is not working, you'll have to double check your work and use the Tech2 to test that too. It won't be the canister that is responsible for the P0449. The canister would have its own codes.

Sorry to hear that Carl. From what I've read they have good customer service. First faulty one I've learned of too. Where do you live? Maybe someone on here has one nearby?

@NathanJax to put this in right forum.

Up date, solenoid energized all the time (Closed)Tahoe battery discharging when sitting overnight. Is there a relay or what could keep hot other than a grounded wire to solenoid.

Did the Tech2 fail self test when connected to the ODB2 port or on the power supply in the house? Because if you use the included power supply to power it up and it’s not connected to the vehicle, you need to use that flat ribbon loop back cable you mentioned earlier. That takes the place of the obd2 connection so you can do a self test without connecting it to the vehicle, using the included power supply. If you connect it to the vehicles obd2 port, don’t use that short ribbon cable or power supply. Just plug the Tech2 into the obd2 port. The other thing is to make sure the CANDI module and the pcmcia card are connected properly. The pcmcia cards are difficult to get inserted due to interference by the door.

Well it's either the vent solenoid or the ECM if the wiring checks out. The Tech2 can command it on and off for testing.

CIRCUIT/SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

Battery voltage is supplied to the EVAP canister solenoid valve. The ECM grounds the EVAP canister vent
solenoid valve control circuit through an internal switch called a driver. The ECM monitors the status of the
driver. A scan tool will display the commanded state of the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve as ON or OFF.

CIRCUIT/SYSTEM VERIFICATION

P0449
1. Ignition ON, engine OFF, command the EVAP vent solenoid ON and OFF with a scan tool.
2. Listen for a click when the valve operates. Verify that both the ON, and the OFF states are commanded.
3. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within
the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
CIRCUIT/SYSTEM TESTING
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EVAP canister purge or vent solenoid valve.
2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the voltage supply circuit terminal A and ground.
 If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the voltage supply circuit for a short to ground or an
open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the voltage supply circuit fuse is open, test or
replace the EVAP canister purge solenoid.
3. Connect a test lamp between the voltage supply circuit terminal A and the control circuit terminal B.
4. Command the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve to 50 percent with a scan tool, or the EVAP canister
vent solenoid valve ON and OFF. The test lamp should respond to the command.
 If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests
normal, replace the ECM.
 If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high
resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
5. If all circuits test normal, replace the appropriate solenoid valve.

Realize that part of this testing mentions the PURGE solenoid too.

This data is from the shop manual. You can get it in pdf form in a disc or download from SeriousCTBuyer on ebay or through a subscription to AllDataDIY. I like both.
