Hi guys!
I know I'm diggin up a very old topic but I'm quite puzzled here.
I did it exactly as the OP described, the thing works perfectly, it triggers with the AC and shuts off when the AC is off.
I've just finished the work and tried into my garage before putting back together the front grille, headlights and stuff, but as for now to me it doesn't seem to have improved the situation so much...
Now I'll put it all back and try it on the street but in this moment I'm quite disappointed...

Any ideas/suggestions?

It would be helpful to know what you're working on (year, make, model, engine, options, etc.), and think about putting some of that info in your signature so it's always there to reference.

Also, what problem, if any, is trying to be solved, or is this modification just to have more peace of mind?

Unless it's over 85F where you are, and you happen to be sitting still in stop'n'go traffic in the sun, you likely won't notice much improvement.
It's meant to help when the engine is idling, when the mech clutch fan is spinning at its slowest.
What you're supposed to notice is that the AC no longer falters / goes limp at idle or very low RpM.
No one else except you should notice much, just that the AC works as any dumb brawd expects, because you added a small fan to help the AC out at idle.

FYI, BEFORE I converted from one mech clutch fan to two electrical fan motors, my tuner did me a favor:
raised my AC-ON idle RpMs from 525RpM (GM OE) to 750RpM, which was enough to not need the AC helper fan.
(Obviously the drawback was pressing on the brake a wee lil bit harder at stopsigns & redlights.)
