I was on the hiway at about 80 mph with the transmission selector in sport. I kicked it down to pass and the revs went to 5k and hung there for a good 3-4 seconds after releasing the gas pedal. It scared the cr@& out of me . I actually said to my wife "here goes an engine".
I called the dealer and drew a blank.
Any one have an idea???. And anyone know how to force it to lower???

Mine does this as well, and if you slightly apply throttle it will upshift. Mine even does it in normal mode. Had it in for this once, they drove it, experienced it, returned it to me and said it was working as designed. Said this transmission is programmed to hold lower gear for a bit so power is avertible to you if you want it back. I suspect if that is the case, the programming may even keep it there longer in sport mode? I am still a bit skeptical, but have learned that a very light throttle input will cause an upshift, vs just letting completely off the throttle, which has the result you describe.

Unless this is an early symptom of bad valve body or early valve body wear?

Shift programming. In sport mode it hangs the rpms a bit more. But 5k for 3-4 seconds sounds like the transmission controls were trying to protect the one way clutch in the converter.
