Hi all,
I just re-acquired a 1999 Tahoe (I was the original owner), and it's got an issue I can't figure out. About a year ago, it was left blocking a single lane driveway (blocking a few cars) and the keys were missplaced. A locksmith was called to try to fix the problem and after he damaged the cylinder, said he couldn't do it. A tow truck was called, and he smashed the brake pedal and tried to force the gear lever into neutral to tow it out/move it, and could not. Second tow truck driver went under car and unlinked something and managed to put it into neutral.

The result: the car was having issues once the cylinder was replaced in terms of shifting out of park. Normally, the brake has to be pressed and it allows car to shift. it wouldn't shift. In fact, no brake movement was required to shift, making it safety concern. I changed the shift lock solenoid (which if you haven't had the pleasure, requires finger strength of Superman) and still it didn't solve the shift issue.

Is there anything I should look at now to fix this issue? Any thoughts would be welcomed.

He may have messed up the shift cable, there’s a clip on the side of the transmission that has to be pushed in to keep it right. Here’s the adjustment procedure…

From memory if you look down the right side of the column just past the lower dash you can see the mechanism where it connects for the shift interlock. You can see right there if it moves to allow the shifter to move with the brake depressed, you can also flip the cable off there and remove the interlock feature and drive like it's 1984.

@Eman85-Thanks. I can drive it....I did change that shift interlock solenoid, but it didn't make any difference. No brake needed to shift; it's just not safe.
