You better sit down, this is a rather intense post. I've been offline for a couple days....

Sunday was 98° f. We're an hour from a hospital, my wife fainted and went unconscious. Her pulse was sitting at 136. Blood pressure extremely low. Too long for an ambulance to arrive. I put the money on the 2014 Escalade, which I did the full AFM delete last year with LS7 lifters.... Basically went through the whole motor in the top end. All new brakes all around, CV axles, bearings, u-joints. Removed the speed limiter in the ECM a long time ago for no specific reason. Just didn't like the thought of it.

Carried her to the Escalade, neighbor came along to monitor her and if CPR was needed. She's 51 years old. It's basically a straight stretch of State highway, a few intermittent four-lane sections. 80 to 120 mph+. ER staff on the phone as we were a few minutes out, and waiting when I pulled up. They immediately took her in on a gurney while I parked the Escalade. Oil pressure, transmission temperature, everything ran perfect. But damn, you could really feel the heat coming from underneath the vehicle when I parked.

Long story short, she was bleeding to death internally from a large tumor in her intestine. They have stabilized her with blood transfusions, they're going in Saturday morning to remove about a foot and a half of intestine that contains the tumor. Tumor has not spread beyond the intestine. It's in there deep where the small intestine connects to the large intestine. She basically only had 32% of the necessary blood left in her body.

I can say 100% in all certainty, I would not have trusted the vehicle to be driven that hard and that fast if it still had the AFM installed. Many high RPM down shifts, getting around traffic at times.

My neighbor that came along is a recently retired state police firearm instructor. He called in ahead so we had an ****** the last mile and a half where there's traffic lights.

We almost lost her. They think she came within 30 minutes of organ damage from lack of oxygen occurring. Apparently there's a critical point where there's no recovery from. Made possible with that Melling 10296 oil pump, Cloye's timing components, Delphi LS7 lifters, BTR trunnion kit, Melling push rods, and Valvoline r&p 5W30. I can tell you, between 5 and 7,000 RPM that 6.2 really screams with an absolutely beautiful sound.

Came home for some sleep, just change the oil and gave it a once over, and headed back down to the hospital now..... At a normal speed this time.

Thank you. My neighbor and his wife stop by the visit with her last night. He told her about the 100mph+ drive in.... Keep in mind she's a school bus driver and she's babied this Escalade for the past 185,000 miles, I don't think she's ever gone past 2000 RPM when she's driven it. I thought she was going to get mad.... But instead she just said thank you, and buy all the car parts I want..... She'll never question it ever again.

And thank God I put the pirelli scorpion tires on it about 8 months ago.

This reads like a scene from a movie. You must've been terrified when she went unconscious. I'm relieved to hear that the tumor hadn't spread, but I imagine they'll want to do more CT scans and X-rays in the weeks and months ahead to make sure.

And congrats on making a more reliable beast - it always gives me peace of mind to know that I was the one who assembled everything on my 2012 when I did the DoD delete, and I know I used top-drawer parts and did it right.

I've always subscribed to the belief that treating a vehicle with care would pay off. Bones from Start Trek said it best:

Prayers up for your wife, you, and everyone around you my friend!!
Also good work to think ahead and prepare for the nightmare scenario. Taking care of your own by taking care of your (her) truck. Love it!! It certainly served you well.

I have thought of this situation...dang I need to get to that to do list.

Something tells me the Caddy was just rearing to go. Like that was the moment it was made for!!!

Wow! Really glad that your wife is going to make it through this ordeal. Really good work on your part and your neighbor, to get her to the hospital in time.

It truly shows the tremendous value of periodic maintenance, and in this case, it TRULY saved a life!

Really hectic time. They're putting the fifth unit of blood in her, and her hemoglobin count is only a five. She should be at 12. They can't do surgery to remove the huge tumor they found until she's at an 8.5. She literally only had 30% of her blood left. They confirmed it's cancerous where her small intestine connects to the large intestine, and it's bleeding. They can't just cauterize it without putting a hole in the intestinal wall. They're extrapolating that they'll be able to do surgery possibly Saturday morning to remove it.

What's really bad.... Is that a year ago I told her I need to make sure all our vehicles can make a run to the hospital if necessary because we're so far away. And that came to fruition.

The good news is the tumors confined within the walls of the intestine, they plan on removing about a foot and a half length to get the whole tumor out in one shot.

The money I put into her Escalade to ensure this was possible is a drop in the bucket to the expense of what they're doing. Multiple CT scans, 3D rendering of her heart to make sure there's no heart damage, and exploratory procedure to verify the CT scan.... Insurance company waived the $1,000,000 lifetime limit on coverage this afternoon. My head is spinning, we didn't see this coming. She's basically fighting for her life but does not know it. They are struggling to get her hemoglobin numbers up so she's suitable for surgery. It's a question if they can pump the blood in faster than she's bleeding internally. She pulls through this, her Escalade will never ever be sold. It has become a member of the family. That sounds crazy about a vehicle, but it's so true.
Everyone's keeping a positive out looking front of her.... But in the hallway, it's very cautious optimism.

No, you done good brother, how much more could you ask for from a man?

I have been in your shoes recently...it's gonna be hard, you aren't gonna know up from down, the days will last forever and move too quickly at the same time.

But you WILL get through this.

Prayers up.
We're here for you too.

Your description is 100% accurate of how this week is going. So many ups and downs. It's all a blur. They completed the study of her heart yesterday, incredible live video feed of each valve. No heart damage from running out of blood, so she gets a green light on that for surgery. Hemoglobin count has reached 7.5, the minimum needed for surgery. At the same time the additional blood has brought her blood pressure up, obviously making the tumor which was already bleeding, bleed faster. Surgeon just told me there's two other numbers that they're watching regarding her blood.... When everything lines up there going in. It could be tonight, it could be tomorrow morning or even later in the afternoon. But time is of the essence with the risk of the tumor rupturing. It does have a large artery feeding it. If upon visual inspection when in there he can confirm he doesn't see that it left the confines of the intestine, he will collect samples from the surrounding tissue for the lab. Two weeks later we will find out if perhaps it did spread at the microscopic level, at which time she will then be on chemotherapy. But if it comes out clean, and the lab samples from outside the intestine are clean, this has the potential to be a one and done procedure, with monitoring for a couple years. Hoping for the best.

Sounds like things are trending up for the immediate...that's another thing, small victories.

As in, progress is usually slow and so small victories are big victories.

She just had emergency surgery this morning after her blood pressure crashed. They identified a tumor on Tuesday where her small intestine meets the large intestine. The tumor was bleeding profusely. It took 4 days of transfusions.... She was admitted with less than 30% of her blood left in her body. Just as they were getting ready to go in, as we got her up to about 70% of her needed blood, the tumor hemorrhaged. Right there in pre-op. Surgery was successful. Tumor appeared to be fully contained in the walls of the intestine.... Surgeon took samples from surrounding tissues for the lab to check on a microscope level if it had started to spread. We'll get those results by Thursday or Friday. It was a real close call. They checked her heart, and luckily no damage from lack of blood.

Recovering now, and she can probably come home on Wednesday or Thursday.

Best news I've heard in a while! What an ordeal...glad she is OK!!
