Does the winter/cold weather delay shift points?

Yep, does with mine too until it's warmed up. Like 40s or colder.

This may be a temp sensor to help warm up the trans.

I’ve tried to let it warm up while idling, and it gets to about operating temperature (about 10-20 degrees below it) and that doesn’t help either. So I’m starting to think it’s the cold weather less and less, unless it needs to be exactly at operating temp.

I recently read a thread on here, from about 12 or so years ago, where @9CZ71Denali was having this issue, and it was because of the MAF.

Tomorrow I’m going to clean the MAF and the TB and see if that helps any, but I’m starting to think that while it still could be a tranny issue, what if it’s just a symptom of another issue like a lean condition?

On a normal day with no warm up they never do this so it appears to be a extreme cold weather issue.

Could it be as simple as a clogged tranny filter? And maybe a complete tranny fluid flush?

Not mine, doesn't have any of that. it just needs a few minutes to get up to temp and then shifts "normal".

It could be but you never know until you remove the pan and take a look.

You have a newer stronger better transmission. Both of mine are 20 years old I'm lucky they even shift at all on a real cold day.

This is stupid cold no matter where your from and doesn't even include the wind chill which can be -50 below zero. Look close and you will see the high this day was -4.

I agree. I HATE cold weather.... and it’s rarely anywhere near zero degrees. My cold isn’t anything like most people’s cold.... lol. I still don’t like it. Everyone tells me I’m in the wrong place and the wrong line of winter work...

Ya up here in Canada at times it gets to -30 degrees celsius and I do notice the tranny shifts different till warmed up, I figure cause the fluid is pretty cold it takes a little longer to flow till warm also with wind chill that affects it too not to mention driving into the wind.

Ya not much moves when that happens, I drive transit bus up here and dang busses break down often.

I know mine will not shift in to OD until the engine is warmed up.

It'll shift to 4th, but torque converter lockup is disabled until trans temps are >75f
