Okay,

So...I might need to drop the year of Tahoe I'm looking for to get to my price range. From my research the engine in 2004 and 2005/06 is the same. As long as the mileage isn't too crazy is the 2004 Tahoe much better/worse than 05/06? My husband wants to hold off, but I'm thinking if they have the same stuff, just different year, why wait?

Anxious buyer

differences?

<05 has a mechanical engine driven fan.
<04 you couldn't get sunroof + RSE (overhead dvd+screen) as they were tandem not side by side.
<03 very different dash and electrical.

that is about it, isn't it?

mileage is mostly the same, officially. Everyone here says the 05+ drive nicer and get better real world economy because you aren't losing power to the fan all the time, but I have not yet had the opportunity to experience this for myself.

I got an 03 and am fine with it, I'm going to try to get back into better gas mileage with:
some maintenance,
narrower/lighter wheels,
ditto for tires,
and maybe if I get lucky, e-fans and a tune.

I was hoping for 15city 20 highway, and am averaging about 12 in mixed driving. As you can tell I am a long way off the what seems to be the norm here.

Might be worth wait

Thanks, mpg might be just enough to wait for the 05+ want a DVD player and that alone seems to drive the cost up... Looking for aftermarked DVD players, and am asking around to see how much to add this piece of equipment through dealers, I'm sure it will be ALOT... My husband can probabley install it, but if it's not to extreme of price, rather have dealer so I have warranty...Where we live the nearest big city is 3 hours away, so the smaller dealerships have the market.

Thaks for the info, helped me out.

no problem, I wanted the RSE also (04+ ~19k locally), but bought one that had an aftermarket unit by a previous owner (03 - 12K).
Turned out to be a far better deal. :) Especially since i can change the DVD unit when it fails, change the tv, etc.

You can also get headrests that already have Monitors in them, or monitors with built in DVD in them, and then install is a snap. i bought a set for $200 used, now my sons have individual tvs, and I don't have a monitor blocking my rear view. it is SOOOO QUIET :)

I am now VERY glad to NOT have the RSE.

I hate to correct you here but I have 04 Tahoe with sunroof and RSE and seperate onstar and xm antennas

All came standard from factory from my understanding.

My friend has the 06 and our trucks are identical in every way

yes, that is what I said, o4+s can have rse and sunroof.
<04 (read PRE-04) do not.

interesting that your friend has an 06 with dual antennas.

06 is the year they consolidated on trucks. After running a google image search it appears I am mistaken, perhaps SUVs did keep separate antennas thru the production run. I could have sworn I saw one 06 with a single sharkfin.

Oh ok sorry I may have misunderstood you.

To be honest I didnt check his antenna. he may have the single one. I was referring to the interior with RSE and sunroof

So I had an 04 Tahoe that got wrecked. I really want the same exact truck. But my buddy has an 06 that's pretty darn clean n well maintained. But the 06 looks smaller than my o4. Am I crazy? Are my eyes deceiving me?

My '05 has efans. Its a fully loaded LT. Can't say what Z71 and LS packages had that year. I have the 5.3L all original with 180k mi, and I get about 15 city / 20 highway.

The whole vehicle looks smaller to you? If yes, then your eyes are deceiving you—it’s the same body. Maybe it sits lower or something?

Yes they are. The body is exactly the same size. Go for it. The 06 is the pinnacle of the NBS. If you liked your 04, you will LOVE the 06. It only improved. Plus e-fans.

The 06's have a different rear glass trim and they changed the handle on the glass. The trim around the 3rd brake light is where you can see the difference better. Also the 06 looses the digital PRND321 and goes to the printed one.
