hello all. first time post, fairly frequent searcher for general info on these trucks. I am currently working on my 2004 GMC Yukon Denali XL, and after purchasing 3 different engine wiring harnesses (one for simplified ls swaps, one dbc, one 2005 version), I have run into a snag that has me puzzled: does the 2005 Yukon have a different plug for the alternator? I began plugging everything in from the furthest points, towards the PCM. now I am near the fuse block, but have a 2-prong connection that doesn't match my alt. am i missing something obvious? every other harness I've dealt with has the 4-prong hookup I'm used to. any info to clarify this is immensely appreciated! I should also add that this box was attached to the negative battery cable, but I removed it before plugging things up.

so I feel like a jerk after finding where to connect that box. I believe it regulates voltage or something. but let's say I hook up a 4-prong connection; will there be any adverse effects since my PCM isn't built for that?

Moved you here from the General Discussion section.

Yes, starting in '05 these incorporated RVC (regulated voltage control), so a harness from that year should have the sensor on the negative cable and a different alternator. Some other members have either disconnected or somehow modified that function, so let's see what they have to say about it.

hi. thanks for the reply. I successfully rerouted the alt hookup, but I think my truck ended up either having the VATS system kick in, or the PCM shut it down as a safety feature from my oil, coolant, and alt gauges not registering. Ran nicely after warming up, but the readout under the mph kept saying battery not charging. I know that these trucks have a disable feature if it senses a different PCM or wiring harness. guess I may have experienced it first hand if not something else. kinda scratching my head in confusion about it TBH.

*** Decided to check my work and after deciding to see if maybe a ground was loose, noticed that the blue plug to the PCM came undone too easily. After reposition of the main harness, had to undo the PCM and caught the culprit; a well- stripped connector. Guess that's why the warning not to over torque is added. Gotta find a way to fill in the thread to hold the screw in place firmly.
