Got a question for mechanics here. My cv axle bolts came out. Here are some pics. What could have caused this? Is it normal? The other side is still tight. Do I just need to put new bolts in or replace the whole axle?

Typically bolts come out because of improper torquing when installed. Looks like someone got distracted and didn’t go back and torque them properly some time in the past.

I’d get a new set of grade 8, or higher, bolts and go with the CV axle you have.

Okay thank you. Even though the other side is still tight should I still go ahead and change them out as well?

^^^ This. If these bolts are properly torqued, they won't back out. Super easy to forget to torque them in the midst of another job. I forgot to torque mine after I dropped the diff to get the oil pan off last year and remembered it during the test drive after I was done with the work. All of them on the passenger side were loose at that point. Torqued them down to spec and no more problems.
