Here’s a question for some that might want to get away from all these issues and will pay out of pocket. Where can you go get a well built from the bottom up small block that would be a bolt in replacement for the 6.2? Like a 6.6 with non afm/dfm internals. A reliable kick ass 450 HP 500 TQ? I’d also go for a kit to swap over to the 6.6 Duramax in the SUV’s the 2500’s can share with us!
In Russia, one guy has been working for a year to put a 6.6 engine instead of his L87, but everything is complicated there, and the prospects are not yet clear. It is very difficult to make friends between the engine from Global A and the Global B car

If you come in a GM dealership right now with a 6.2 from 2021-2024 then yes you are responsible for paying for it if you are asking to put 0-40 oil in it. I'm gonna make you sign the original hard copy giving me permission to perform the work. So if something happens to your engine before GM authorizes this particular fix and you have trouble then they have an exit. I get 2-3 calls a day about people asking about changing oil and if you want to pay for it and sign the original hard copy I will put Mrs. Buttersworth's in there if you want it.
This is not what the service manager at my local dealer told me. He said that since GM is sanctioning the use of 0W40 then that is what they are putting in any of these engines that come in for an oil change. Any idea when GM will come out with an official fix? I'm a little past due with the oil change and I'm wondering if I should just wait.

They say Jun 9 in the NHTSA recall report.

If I had more disposable cash I’d definitely be considering a shop like Hennessey or Lingfelter to clean up the mess with alleged parts/tolerances and do performance modifications.

The cost is significant and pretty sure it would be hard to get extended warranty. If you could get an extended warranty it might be worth it as you know it would have quality control that seems to be the main issue with the 6.2l.

2 Jet ski's and some people and stuff? Hell, My daughters 1.5L Bronco sport could do that! I just pulled a 6500# 28' Tritoon with a 400 on the back last week and hardly knew it was there....
I used to have a jet ski rental business and had trailers that held 2 and the biggest trailer held 4.

A single axle trailer and 2 skis will be under 2,000 lbs. Even if you have the Mac daddy models topped off and a couple portable 5 gallon tanks that double single axle payload wouldn’t be much over 2,000lbs. Most of the smaller SUV’s domestic and foreign should be able to tow a 3,000lb trailer safely.

Pretty sure Vlad would tell you that he can’t even feel he was towing that trailer at highway speed on smooth road and had to look in the mirror to make sure it was still attached.

My 25’ center console boat with 100 gallon gas tank, 250 HP 4-stroke motor and double axle trailer is around 6,000lbs. Most of the time I barely notice it but I never tow over 60mph and it’s pretty much completely flat where I am towing. Launching and loading the boat doesn’t seem to stress the 6.2l or my Tahoe.

2024, 0w-20 was changed once during initial service at 7500 miles. At 10k now.
Swapped out the lighter fluid for real oil yesterday. Cut the filter open so I could sleep at night. Happy to find nothing in it.
Took an oil sample and sent it off to Lake Speed for wear analysis.

Yes I will put 0-40 in your truck but YOU are gonna PAY for it out of YOUR pocket. The fix has not been made official yet therefore GM is NOT paying for your oil change since you have heard 0-40 is what they are going to and want to jump the gun and get it done before its official.

So you only had 2500 miles on the oil you sent in? Would be real surprised if they find anything bad at that mileage.

Yes, looked at that pic and understood where to look on the head which is difficult on a Z71 with skid plates.

Which is why I’m inquiring to find out about the stickers by the headlights.

Thanks anyway.

I highly doubt that the engine build info would be by a headlight -- the engines can be assembled long before being installed in the chassis. Since the recall definitively shows where to find the engine build date, that's what I pointed to. Difficult or not, that's where GM says it is. Try a borescope?

Right the engine build date wouldn't be by the headlight it's on the driverside head on the rear and can be a real PITA to take a picture of it.

Engine build dates are typically 1-2 months before vehicle build date.
