Plastics got scrubbed with a horse hair brush and all-purpose cleaner then dressing. Removed a disgusting amount of makeup from the visor, radio, shifter and turn signal, etc.

Other then the french fries, find anything good? It's always like a treasure hunt when you take apart a used vehicle.

LOL not this time. They were for sure Braum's fries though! Final count was a bunch of lost fast food receipts, several pens, some small toys, a battery and probably $5 in change but it was so nasty I sucked it all up and dumped it. There were some dryer sheets that had been caught up under the driver's seat, I guess that was a substitute for actually cleaning.

I once found the full wallet and checkbook from the previous owner jammed behind the glove box in a truck. The guy was really happy to have it back, thought it had been stolen.

So I'm at $1,471 for parts to date, not including supplies or tools, but I am further along than I anticipated for the money. Not having to do ball joints, tires, etc. has been good for the budget. I still have to address the fuel tank leak, hopefully that's a cracked fitting or a line and not the pump then I am planning to take care of the rear main seal, oil pan gasket, oil pressure sending unit, and valve cover gaskets. After that, with a few more "test" miles it should be ready for driver status then finish the exterior cosmetic stuff at an easier pace. Not bad progress for 6 days I think (bought last Saturday). Here's the current parts list.

The durofoam seat bottom is in, and I made some repairs on the seat back. It felt a little soft because the wings were split where it wraps the seat frame. So I glued the foam together, cut some canvas drop cloth an stuffed it back in the cover. It feels like new.

Looking good!! I dont know what youre using to dress the interior but i got turned onto this 303 Aerospace interior/exterior.....holy crap!!! its all im ever going to use now. Has a UV inhibitor in it and the finish dries to a DEEP matte black, no grease or residue left over. It made my interior plastics looks 100% brand new. Even worked awesome on the stuff outside.

Thanks! And dang you just reminded me I have some of that 303 and it's great lol. For cleaning plastics I used Mother's all purpose cleaner with a horsehair brush and detail brushes. For upholstery I usd Chemical Guys Foaming Citrus Fabric cleaner and a drill brush. I used Chemical Guys Natural Shine for dressing.

Tried out the upholstery staple gun on the seat back pockets. Both were falling off and loose but not torn or anything. I removed all the staples, tightened the elastic (it's just tied on the back if anyone has this problem), re-stapled the edges and cleaned. 5/32 staples. Happy with the outcome.

Wow!! What a transformation in this ride!! That’s pretty awesome! Those carpets came out pretty clean! Crazy to think how bad some people let their interiors get..... lol. Nice work for having it such a short time! That’s a hell of a nice ride for a 16 year old’s first car!! Hopefully he appreciates everything you’ve done to it!!

Love the Chemical Guys stuff, its all I use for washes and stuff these days. I need to get a couple of brushes for misc cleaning, but yeah, 303 is the bomb!!

Man nice work so far. You have one lucky son to have a dad who can resurrect a truck like you’re doing. Hopefully he’s watching and helping so he learns how to do this himself. You have a ton of knowledge to pass on.

I agree. Them having some sweat equity invested in the deal not only teaches them some skills, but helps them appreciate what they have more and are less likely to tear the stuff up.
