All I can find are youtube videos and write-ups about the silverados, but nothing for the Tahoe. I've got a 5.3L Z71 with the 10-speed transmission. I bought all the parts but when I went to get started I couldn't even do the first step: The Tahoe seems like it has way less clearance than the Silverado's between the transmission and frame to get to the bolts needed to drop the exhaust to get enough room to get the pan out.

Has anyone done this themselves and had a similar experience? I read a forum post about a 2019 Escalade where the guy just wiggled the pan right out, but others report that only works for some people. Is my only option the dealer? My dealer wants to do a full flush with BG fluids, neither of which I need or want. Just looking for a filter change, cleaning the magnetic debris off the magnets, and filling back up to proper level with ACDelco equipment.

No videos or how-tos or write-ups that I can find specific to the 2021+ Tahoes.

Nope… my dealer quoted me $1050 to do a filter and fluid change. Both sides of the exhaust need to be disconnected, plus the removal of the O2 sensor I believe on the passenger side. Plus refill has some specific requirements at temperature.

There is a whole thread on here about this. Yes, I did mine on a 2021 Suburban. The pick up and the Utilities are the same. I did not drop my exhaust but I unbolted the trans and lifted while pulling down the rear exhaust and got the pan out. It is tight. There is a lot of information on getting the level correct. I measured what was removed and refilled the same amount.

By unbolting the trans you mean You unbolted the two transmission mount bolts on the crossmember then lifted up the whole transmission to get clearance?

You said you did all this and it was still tight to get the transmission pan out… how did you get the pan back in with a new gasket

Yes, loosen trans mount. It is tight. Once it is in position, you can move the gasket around and put it in correct oreintation.

I did this, installed a new aftermarket PPE pan with a drain so I can perform drain and fills without dropping the exhaust. Removed the drivers side O2 sensor and dropped the exhaust down a few inches from the manifold. There is a flex coupler that allows the Y pipe to be dropped. I do not think I could have slipped the newer PPE pan back in if I jacked up the rear of the trans as the PPE pan is deeper.

I have this info in a thread about upgrading the valve body with the NextGen parts. Search my user name.
