Hi All,

The issue has not been resolved. My truck has been in the hands GM engineers for weeks. Here is the service bulletin info: #PIT5318, "Wind Buffeting Droan Type Noise and/or Body Pressure Booming." Document ID: 3975780. Dated 8/29/14.

Models:
2015 Escalade Models
2015 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe
2015 Yukon Models

Just got my 2015 Yukon XL Denali last week. Love the vehicle, very quiet, except for a high-pitched whistling noise from driver's side above 50mph. Thought it was a window or door seal, but all looks good there. I noticed the sound with the window open too. Turns out it is the mirror. If I place my hand underneath the mirror stem (from door to mirror) the sound goes completely away. Very irritating. The 2015 product brochure touts redesigned mirrors to reduce wind noise. Anyone else notice this from their mirrors? Not sure if it's worth taking to dealer to replace mirror?

I realize that my cabin noise issue is not the same as the OP. However, I've found a fix for my problem that might help others. I hear a high-pitched whistling noise above 50mph. I localized it to the side mirrors. I further localized it to the bottom of the "stem" that connects the mirror to the vehicle. I applied a piece of 1-3/8" flat/rounded adhesive body molding to the underside of the mirror "stem". I adjusted the position a few times. Totally smooths out the airflow under the mirror and whistling is GONE! Molding is flat enough that you cannot notice it unless you're shorter than the mirrors. Hopefully they realize the problem with their mirror design next time around.

Same whistle and pressure issues here

Piggybacking on this thread, same issues here with 2015 Denali. Just traded in the Expedition for this $75k train whistle and considering running back to Ford. Quite disappointing. It's impossible to drive with just one window down, and 2 really does not help either. and at 60+ mph the mirrors whistle quite loudly. If there's any Bose noise cancellation (i'm not convinced there is, haven't figured out how to turn it on or off) it doesn't help.

I've also validated the whistle is coming from the mirrors. When you hear it, simply hit the button to fold them in and you'll notice the whistle disappears.

Hope there's a fix soon.

I know it's not a permanent solution, but try applying the adhesive body molding to the underside of your mirror stem. apply the end of the molding tight to the door and extend straight outward as far as the stem allows.

Worked for me. Can't see it at all. Few $$ fix from local auto parts store. This whistling was the biggest annoyance. Now I actually love the quiet ride (except when I open the windows and get the thumping).

Any chance you could post a photo of your fix? I'd like to see your approach.

Even while cruising you can hear the exhaust sound from the front passenger side.

Sure. I'll try to take a pic in the daylight tomorrow.

Here's a pic of the underside of the mirror. 1-3/8" vehicle moulding from the local parts store. self-adhesive. wish it wasn't chrome, but they didn't have black to blend in. doesn't matter since it's under the mirror and can't see it unless you know it's there. I tried a few different times to reduce the whistling sound. moulding needs to be tight to the door, square cut end.

I hear a faint buffetting like what you would hear with just one window open - it's faint but it's there. Anyone else have this or am I the only one?

...and it's an extensive fix. Parts on order for me. Remove headliner and apply some sort of caulking all around roof seam. Dealer looked up service bulletin. Two day or so job.

GM has just initiated the process to purchase my vehicle back from me. I commend GM for doing the right thing. I will end up buying the next model year vehicle...

The Denali is the truck I wanted...took 5 months to get it once I ordered in February. What are the odd of getting two bad ones?...Have you had any of the issues with the buffeting?

Some Info on Cabin Noise

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern
Some owners may comment of a wind buffeting/droan noise or body/pressure booming (the feeling of pressure in the ears) while driving. The body booming issue may be more noticeable when the engine is in V4 mode. In some cases, they may also notice a water leak from the headliner area, if equipped with a sunroof. These concerns could be caused by the roof sheet metal no longer being attached to the roof bows (1). On trucks with a sunroof, it may be noticed that the rear edge of the sunroof glass is considerably lower than the roof (2). This is due to the roof sheet metal being detached from the roof bow directly behind the sunroof opening (3).

To correct this concern, apply panel vibration control material between the roof bow and roof sheet metal, along with foam shim material when necessary.

Remove the headliner to access the underside of the roof. Inspect all 4 roof bows for insufficient bonding to the roof sheet metal (4). Any roof bow that is not bonded to the sheet metal will need to be repaired.

Use the following repair for all 4 bows on trucks without a sunroof, and for the 3 rear bows on trucks with a sunroof:

Use a plastic scraper or similar tool to remove the old foam. Measure the gap between the top of the roof bow and bottom of the roof sheet metal. If the gap is 5/16 (8mm) or greater, use a combination of 3/4" wide by 5/16" or 7/16" thick foam shim material (as listed below) to fill the gap between the roof bow and the sheet metal. Care should be taken to add only the correct thickness of foam to fill the gap so it does not push up on the roof. Cut the foam into 5 inch lengths and place in three spots along the roof bow, one piece in the middle and one at each outer edge. With the foam shim material in place, or if the gap is less than 5/16" (8mm), use the panel control vibration material (as listed below) to fill the voids between the roof bow and sheet metal. In some cases, it may take a couple layers of material to fill the void.

Repair for 1st bow on trucks with a sunroof:

Use a plastic scraper or similar tool remove the old foam. Use the panel control vibration material (listed below) and apply along the top of the 1st roof bow. Obtain two 2x4 pieces of wood cut long enough to span the opening of the sunroof. Wrap one of the 2x4's with a cloth to protect the roof paint and place it on top and the other one on the bottom. Then clamp together using three C-clamp as shown below (5 & 6). The clamps will need to stay in place until the panel control vibration material is dry.
