Found it...
Piston #1 was quiet. Piston #2 knocked just slightly. The other six pistons were also quiet.
I removed #2 piston/rod assembly. I was able to rock the piston side to side on the connecting rod. That is where my knocking sound was coming from. And explains why I heard it from the front side of under the oil pan.
#2 connecting rod is chucked up in the vise. The play you see is the piston pin rocking in the small end bushing of the rod. The knocking video I posted from May now makes sense.
To be honest, I learned this trick from Eric from "I Do Cars" on youtube. He usually does this to look for wasted connecting rod bearings. I did it to check for loose wrist pins.
When I am off work again Thursday, I will remove the remaining seven piston/rod assemblies. Number then remove the pistons from the rods. The rods and piston pins will then go to my machinist for new small end bushings.
Yes, there is still considerable work to come. As I will likely continue to fully disassemble the engine to clean EVERYTHING again. Then build it back up from a bare block. I already have new bearings and gaskets on hand.
