The pic says 1,000 words. This thing is just too big and annoying to use basic functions like the radio, plus there's the whole distraction factor. I gave it a shot, but my phone isn't really setup to utilize it (I run a custom Android ROM/OS anyway). The PO installed this, with a crossover for audio, wired phone mic and a backup camera mounted on the rear lic. plate bracket.

I've seen smaller screens that would be more ideal, but they look like they might need some modification to fit decently. This one below looks pretty clean but you can see where the touchscreen is flush with the lower edge of the trim, so it might be a fiddly fitment which ever model/make it is. I've looked on Crutchfield, the few small screen units that are a 'guaranteed fit' are Apple car play only, the rest of what they offer as far as basic radios go are downright ugly and fussy looking. Looking on eBay for an OEM, and whenever I can get to the scrapyard I hope I can find a working one....looking for other options.

Looks like it might have already been done? Hard to tell if it's 2 or 1.5 DIN. The fitment isn't totally great sitting as-is, as you can see a little gap on the right by the right vent.

The bezel isn't all the way in which made me suspect it's a 2 DIN crammed in there. I found some single and 1.5 DIN units out there that may be the ticket, I got some research to do.

Something to note that I’ve noticed in the GMT800s at least in the 2003-2006 trucks. Once the factory headunit comes out and an aftermarket replacement goes in, with the accompanying faceplate that the aftermarket headunit needs for the structure behind the dash bezel, the dash bezel never sits totally flush against the headunit and vents afterwards. Not sure what causes that, but my dash has been that way ever since going to an aftermath DD unit and several others I’ve detailed have also been that way with aftermarket headunits.

Apparently single and 1.5 DIN radios with screens and all that jazz exist which is good news. So my plan is to go that route and see if it's an easy swap with all the existing wiring.

This is a standard double din in my 2001 yukon, they don't make a kit for this year so I used a generic double din install kit & trimmed the factory bezel & modded the kit to make it work but it fits like factory

I had to do this on a 2000 silverado & a 2002 Sierra as well because the easy kits don't exist for pre 2003 models of the gmt 800 rigs; but it is possible if you go in knowing your going to have to wing it

What is a "PO" ? Replace it with something that runs Apple CarPlay.

Or Previous Owner

I was poking around and found these guys who made a pretty slick solution:

But I wasn't too hip on the price, I ended up finding basically the same radio and a Scoshe adapter on Amazon for ~50% less. I ripped out the old 9" screen and labelled the all the connections. It had an antenna for WIFI (?) and GPS, and I might hookup the existing backup camera but the video is really blurry. I tried wet sanding and polishing the lens but it did no good, so it might have buildup on the inside, it looks pretty old and worn out. The new radio comes with a new camera so I might just splice it in or (gasp) re-wire it.

The retention clip is just not pushed in all the way OR the head unit needs to be adjusted back a hair so the clip can go in all the way.
I have ran double dins on several, and it's just a matter of pushing the clips in properly, there is nothing blocking it.

If you go from the 1.5 din to the 2 din, besides swapping the bezel you also have to swap to a different radio cage. This is what the actual radio sits in inside the dash.

Interesting….. I’ve messed with a bunch of times and could never get it to sit just right lol.
