That said, my suspicion is GM went ahead with V8-V7-V6-V5-V4-V3-V2 mode because they don't want the engine to last TOO long.
That extra complexity is gonna bite them in the arse when Mexico's used car market hemorrhages into the southwestern US.

Yes, of course I understand WHY AFM/DoD exists. What I'm trying to convey is that it doesn't actually result in a meaningful benefit in the real world. This is fairly noxious. Will give you a headache bad. Taking it back to dealer Monday. I cannot overstate how unhelpful GM has been on this whole affair. I have bought seven vehicles from them in the last 12 years and the most they have offered is an extended warranty on my replacement engine.
