I've gone down grades with a 4-door dually, hauling a Cigarette racing powerboat. Hell, the trailer was already too much weight.......( Betty Cook's - KAAMA boat )
You are ******* the brakes...... Then off peddle ( to cool brakes)..... Then hard again.....

( If anyone knows about the "Grapevine" highway north of Los Angeles, you know !! )

My first car was a 1976 Impala with a 350ci 2bbl. That thing would float down the highway but never met a gas station it didn't need to stop at. I think I got 11-13 mpg with that thing. Curiously, I looked up the overall length of that land yacht and it was the same length as my '13 Yukon XL. Had about the same passenger capacity as well!

My dad (80) was harassing for me buying such an expensive ride. So I put together a little comparison for him - comparing the family's 1980's Custom Cruiser to my 2016 Suburban.

It will be interesting to see what changes in the next 30-40 years...

Price comparison
1982 Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruiser list price $8975. Today's price with inflation $22,321.89
2016 Tahoe 2WD LT model list price $52,030

Not taken into account is the advances in HP, safety, lower maintenance, etc.
